Cable Connect 2024 Mac Mini M4 to Uniti Atom Headphone

Good morning to all of you, I’ve just bought a 2024 Apple Mini M4 and I need to connect it with a cable (optical, USB…) to my Atom Uniti Headphone Edition because I use a keyboard with Pianoteq software and if I use Airplay connection I have a big latency…I tried to connect Toslink cable with adaptator from headphone Jack port of Apple Mini and one of the two digital Optical S/PDIF of Uniti Atom but no signal is recognized…I also tried to connect Apple Mini USB Port with adapter to the same digital output output with no result.

Please, could you help me?? Thanks in advance!!!

Orazio

The Atom cannot accept a USB input from a computer, just a storage device such as USB drive or stick, so it appears that you would need wither a USB to Toslink adaptor or a USB DAC with an analogue output in order to connect hard wired audio from the Apple Mini to the Atom. What sort of adaptor do you have - I ask because it may be that it’s either not working at all, not set up correctly (2 channel PCM), or outputting such a poor digital stream that the Atom cannot lock onto it properly.

Dear Richard, thank you very much for your immediate reply…Following your advice I have bought a new cable from Amazon and now I can use the USB Audio Dac port of the Uniti Atom Headphone to play with no latency. The only problem I have now is that I cannot use the volume command of my iMac to set the volume and I can change it only using the remote control of my Uniti Atome Headphone…Can you tell me the reason why I cannot use my iMac keyboard to set the volume??? Thanks a lot again

If it’s a digital output then it will have no effect on the volume level. To do that you need to convert to analogue within the control of the MAC - so, some kind of USB DAC and then connect via analogue to the Atom. Alternatively use Airplay, but then you’re back to the latency issue you have experienced.

I got it!!! Thanks again!!!
