I am very fortunate to have built a solid system although it has taken me 30 years and a lot of advise from folk on here.
My system is a Linn LP 12 Klimax Naim 333, 300, 552, 300 DR and B and W 804 D3 speakers and standard Naim cables
As I approach retirement I wondered if there was any area I could enhance before I promise the wife no more spending do I need to look at cabling seriously? Thanks as always knowledgeable gang.
I went from the standard Naim cable to the Naim Super Lumina cable throughout the system. It is expensive but can be found secondhand or pre-loved as they say.
Not sure if youâve attended to the LAN tuning aspects for your streaming.
For many years I thought my Ethernet LAN was good. It wasnât until the âlearned colleaguesâ here got me interested in the results of either âEnglish Electric 8switchâ or the lower cost âCisco C2960G 8TCâ switch.
Basically the switch is inserted between your 333 and the router, preferably with nothing else on this switch.
i went with Cisco which was a revelation for such a low cost, probably a better cost benefit(musical) outcome than doing cables beyond the Naim standards (dare I say)
Thatâs a lovely system. Naimâs Super Lumina cables would finish it off nicely. The so-called âfull loomâ would require the Din to Din interconnect between the 333 and 552, a pair of Din to XLR cables between the 552 and 300, and then a pair of the speaker cables. I used full Super Lumina when I had a big system and would say itâs well worth the money.
Iâve also added some high end cables such as AR Sound Lunar interconnects but have gone back to the naim lavender cables. The synergy is just right. Sometimes an âupgradeâ may sound impressive but more detail or brightness can be wearing. The balance and musicality are what matters⌠Am I listening more or less is the test I apply to changes and I take weeks to evaluate.
My recommendation would be ignore your cables, assuming they are of reasonable quality and fit for pupose but invest time and energy in seeking out and buying more music.
After many years of saving etc finally got to where I want to be with my system and allowing for the fact that I have been extremely lucky with my 27 year old CDX itâs possible nothing will changeâŚ.apart from maybe the sentimental change to. 250 from the 200.
Up to a few weeks ago we have had Witchhat Audio cables in all interconnects and speakers and gave no more thought about it The cables themselves in their entirety are all over maybe 10 years old
Being of a nostalgic nature we purchased a pair of Introâs MK 1 from Tom Tom Audio and the excitement it added was just what we needed, but something just wasnât right. The Introâs were voiced with NAC A 5 and when we installed this more sense was made of what we hoped for in the sound
So yes cables so matter after spending years as a skeptic, icing in the cake we added three Power Line Lites last week and again a significant difference in solidity and soundstage especially with piano. Awaiting the arrival today of a Hi Line from the guys at TomTom as the next part of the puzzle. Will be changing to all Hi Line interconnects over the next few months, and from a skeptic that is high praise that cables so matter
And yes like our CDX & 102 the Introâs had their lovers and haters but it works.
I am using Chord SarumT interconnect cables. Made a huge difference over stock Naim. I use Isotek power cables and their Sigma unit. Isotek considerably lowers the noise floor.
Just wanted to say how thankful I am for everyoneâs advise today very grateful to you all and the different options and some clear direction for me cheers have a good evening some songs in the key of life for me
Iâm sure they are excellent cables but certainly not cheap. In my view disproportionately expensive considering the rest of the OPâs system. I realise this is highly subjective but I would spend more on black boxes than cables - but I am not saying cables are unimportant!
