There’s an interesting what hifi review of the Evo 150. Released 3 days ago.
Indeed - still reads as though the Atom is better product than Evo 150 overall
You reckon? I took away the opposite. I suppose they weren’t really very committing with their verdict but I got the impression the power gave the Evo the edge.
I agree that they weren’t being explicit but that was my interpretation
Must confess (Naughty Boy’s Step awaits) that I prefer the Cambridge outer body , with a knob at the front to the Uniti instead of having a control at the top
Though my last piece of Cambridge equipment was as reliable as a tenth hand Lada

I have a good friend from work who is looking to get in to a better music experience at home. I’ve been guiding him along the way, he wants something integrated and that will work nicely with some PMC speakers he has (20/23i I think?)
He’s been doing his own research and reading and is not biased towards a previous brand loyalty. He’s been looking at all sorts of brands and products, some I know but haven’t heard and some I’m not even familiar with.
I’ve been inviting myself along to his listening sessions anyway, we have one this weekend which is looking at Moon and Dartzeel as examples, not familiar with either brand so could be fun.
I think it’s fair to say I’ve already be able to challenge his preconceptions of what a system can deliver, we had a listen to my kit at home and he also tried an Atom with some Elac bookshelf speakers.
I did say get a Nova and enjoy it though!
It was a small Cambridge DAC, I would run it for so long and it would just shut down, next one did the same as did the one after that. Whether it was designed that way, I never found out
Gave up, got my money back, bought a small Pro-Ject which was the smallest hifi box , I ever bought and probably the best value.
As a brand I was left with a high degree of respect for Pro-Ject’s value and engineering
My reading was that they both have areas of strength but these differ from one box to the other, with no clear overall winner. Good to have the choice, though.
That said, I do wish that WHF would try to use more appropriate speakers in their reviews. I find it hard to take seriously a mag that pairs the Evo, or Atom come to that, with ATC SCM 50s in its reviews.
Roger
Well those speakers would be imparting little in the way of coloration or distortion so in the right circumstances they will aid to give a more accurate representation of the device itself. Problem is… they are not very efficient! @ 85 dB I am not surprised that the Atom lost some of its drive and depth. You are right they should use something more appropriately suited to both.
There’s a head to head between the Atom and the Evo 150 on What Hi-fi.
The outcome (drumroll) - The Atom won by smidge with better sound quality, although the Evo has better connectivity.
Better connectivity than the Atom? Interesting. It is one of the areas where I believe the Atom excels.
The following is taken from the What Hi-fi article:
The Cambridge further builds on the Naim’s connectivity list with asynchronous USB and balanced XLR inputs, a built-in phono stage, and a second pair of speaker terminals that allows users to run two pairs simultaneously.
That makes the Cambridge easier to use in a laptop system and by owners of phono stage-less turntables. Arguably, it’s also the choice for Tidal HiFi subscribers, being the only one of the two supporting the MQA technology powering the catalogue’s hi-res Masters. It also supports Tidal Connect (a feature that allows you to ‘cast’ songs from within the native Tidal app), but at the time of writing this is a ‘coming soon’ update for the Naim.
tidal connect “coming soon”

TIDAL Connect really is coming soon. I’ve got a press release drafted and everything
Just waiting for Amazon HD now then.
That’s still being robustly discussed, I can assure you!
Internally, or with Amazon?
Both!
Got to say Amazon Ultra HD sounds great, even via my JBL Flip 4
