No, bass was full. Like many speakers they were designed with resting in an anechoic chamber. Bass can disappear indoors due to cancellations: lots of bass trapping indoors can bring bass back - outdoors it is simply there. No boominess either because no opposite surfaces to reflect and build long reverberation times.
