I had Quad 33/303 and it was wearing out.
I got 32.5/SNAPS/250
I was using Marantz CD63 as my source which had (still has) remote control of volume. I wanted to get a better CD player and the top ones did not have remote control of volume.
I replaced 32.5/SNAPS with 82/2xHicap (to have remote control of volume on the pre-amp rather than the CD player) and did not expect an improvement until I upgraded the CD player.
I was amazed by the improvement with the Marantz CD63 before I ungraded anything. I can’t really describe it because this happened over 20 years ago. But usually when I am happier with a new system is when I can pick out more detail (I did not notice the cello, I can now make out the words).
Both 250s were Olive. (I had 32.5/SNAPS with Olive 250)
This is not an exact match for your question but about 20 years ago I moved from 32-5/Hi-Cap/2 x 135 to 282/Hi-Cap/2 x 135. Then about 3 years ago I installed newly serviced 32-5/Hi-Cap/110 for about 6 weeks while the main system, which then had 2 x CB Hi-Caps, was being serviced.
On both occaisions I felt that the 32-5 sounded a bit softer than the 282. The 282 sounded more dynamic and controlled. The differences were not the proverbial night and day, but noticeable. I have not heard the 82 but the 282 is rumoured to have a similar presentation so I hope this helps.
