I prefer the 323/5 too. My next favourite is the original board in an NAC 12 for that warm valve like sound but I tended to use the /5 instead.
As always cheers @Murmur – always love your sharing of experience. Now that sentence of ‘valve like warm sound’ makes wanna go like OP but in the reverse way! A BD160 in good conditon is difficult to see these days tho, not to mention a 12 with original boards : -/
Thanks juliushui. I’ve seen a few 12s for sale on eBay, one really nice one recently and for sensible money. The BD160s seem harder to find now though.
I’m really surprised how well the 72 works with the 160 so perhaps that’s all you need.
I know where there is a nice 12s & SNAPS for sale. From a reputable dealer and I don’t believe its out on the bay.
Hello all and Richard of course
After spending time looking around a 42/110 combo has been purchased and on arrival will be sent to Salisbury for a service.
But having not bought anything for a few months I decided to upgrade the lp12 ( lingo 4 ) so I’ve lost my reference sound so to speak but I’ll let you know how things are when all back together
Regards
M
I had 42/110 in the past. what a beautiful combo.
I also have 32.5/HiCap/110, better sound, but I loved the tiny 42/110 combo
I started with Nait in 1985, reached 282/SC/250 a few years ago, now I have 62/SNAPS/90. Temporary trends and fashions apart, this is what Naim is all about to me.
Interesting @millsandboon. I’m curious about your motivation and/or goal in going step by step up the CB hierarchy. Is it just for the pleasure and experience as a CB fan? Or are you trying to determine which will be your favorite combination? Or?
Hi
Motivation is scratching an itch and to travel back in time whilst collecting…
Back in …1987/88 if I remember correctly I walked into Cleartone on high st Manchester, where I first met Dave and Brian.
After e few minutes looking at Dual ,Nad,Marantz I asked Dave " I thought you sold Naim"
"Follow me " he said
Into a room full of CB stuff
I’ll never forget that day ,so now I’m going to buy a few different bits of CB service them and listen.
Joiner been round to measure Nelly for dimensions
Going to build a display unit with plugs behind some half width some full.
Then I can have it all on display and plugged in ready to go if on a whim I decided to say listen to my 160 or 90
Wife’s given me the shake of her head which means if I want to I can .
So I am
I’ll post pics when built and as collection grows
Regards
M
On a quick side note
The eagle eyed of you may have seen a CB product guide and advertising materials appear on an auction site
I nabbed it lol
Exciting!
And you can’t go wrong really especially if you buy sensibly, such as ensuring that you’re not buying modified kit that Naim / Class A won’t touch. Darran will happily check over an internal photo to ensure everything is in the right place before you part with any cash.
Never seen that one before.
Is that the Naim speaker they had made by someone else?
I have no idea,
That thread is a good read about the speakers I think are being referred to above, with photos!
Fabulous! Yes, please share pics as you proceed along your journey. Including of the custom CB cockpit / display unit!
Exciting! It sounds like a great project to fulfil the dream of young!
What are the speakers? imho it would be great to keep one of your LP12 with pre-Cirkus/Valhalla/Ittok , as CB amps were voiced for that, you get the best synergy with it.
