CD5X any hope of saving?

Naim having confirmed that they are no longer repairing CD players - I had my local dealer send my CD5X as a last hope it to their repair man who reports:

“left channel PCM1704 IC Pro version DAC has PCM serial data input but no analog output - SMD IC DAC unobtainable in Pro-version and obselete, player classed as EOSL (End of Service Life)”

Damn pity as the right channel DAC was replaced by Naim in 2022 and all in all I reckon over the years I have had the CD player from new it’s only had about 60 hours of play time, just nice to have a player around for my remaining CD collection.

Is that it the end of a lovely piece of kit?

I don’t know how competent the repair person is but could they bypass the DAC and fit a SPDIF out?
Worth the ask.

Think the answer to your question is “yes”.

I feel sorry for you, the CD5X was my first Naim CD player and I still have some good memories to it …

Thanks, just wish I had got more use out of it - pound for hours played it is the most expensive piece of naim kit I have ever bought.

Problem solved a local dealer was doing an Audiolab 6000CDT transport for a giveaway price. So that is going in my NDS and will have to suffice.

The CD5X may get sold on for spares. Must be someone out there that wants a mech.
