Changes to Qobuz T&Cs

Having been long used to the old iTunes Store, 7 digital etc removing previous purchases for download/redownload it is probably time to ensure your Qobuz purchases are all downloaded and backed up.

Can’t say I’m surprised that some items may get removed for redownloading or removed from the Qobuz catalogue for purchase or streaming, but if these new T&Cs herald a significant change there are only 5 days to make sure you have stuff downloaded and appropriately backed up.

Maybe a formality to inform us, but if they sever ties with any major labels it could be an issue for purchases.

Thinking about it has anyone ever seen any purchases disappear from their history of items available to redownload?

I don’t think I have which always surprised me, though I have seen some titles which were available become unavailable to purchase.

Always intended to create a spreadsheet of past purchases but life’s too short.

I’ve downloaded and kept all the zip files as they were purchased. Looks like it’s only one that might disappear for me:

Where did you see the warning?

Not seeing anything obvious at the top of my purchases list.

It was on the email they sent.

Just noticed a new email a few hours after the first.

3 albums for me by the looks of it.

Could have sworn I’d purchased that Deep Purple album, maybe not.

Wondering if it’s a ‘label thing’ or more individual.

Is the Deep Purple album on earMusic label?

Mine are Safari Records I think.

Ok, that’s odd.

I had purchased it but it’s not mentioned in the email, unless your purchase was on a different label or in a different region maybe?

If they are emailing based on labels (I think all mine were on Safari), I have to wonder if we might get several.

@BertBird - check your emails from Qobuz.

Hi Richard

Trying to avoid cross posting in different areas, but this could potentially affect many forum members if they haven’t downloaded all purchases, particularly given the change applies on 1st October.

Slightly odd that fotobrooks has had an email for a Deep Purple album and I haven’t - maybe different region or possibly different label given some are re-issued.

Thinking of a separate thread here or in Music to list titles members will lose the ability to redownload. Hope that’s ok.

Must say, I think it’s excellent that they are at least pre-warning purchasers of changes in advance even if it’s a little short notice.

Better buy those “obsolete” silver disc thingies, then.

I’ll just go and check my copy of inFinite… yup. still there, where I left it

Especially the Hi Res ones.

Roger

In the very early 2000 I started to move away from mp3 who obviously was not heading towards hi-fi. Temporary living in Japan it was easy to access Sony stuff and I found out the Minidisc (with the Sony proprietary software to store the music on a PC…so you don’t need hundreds of minidisc). Fall in love with, it was CD quality so I worked long time to put a few hundreds albums in.
Long story short, computer problems, come back to Canada, software license problems ending up loosing my entire collection expect for the few albums I had on minidisc at that time.

Never again I have rely on a software or a company to keep my music. A good lesson learned.
Too bad, it was really a cool system otherwise… at that time.

The following for me:-

  • End Of World (album) by Public Image Ltd.

  • This New Noise (album) by Public Service Broadcasting, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jules Buckley

I’ve been collecting the Jethro Tull anniversary box sets, which include Hi-res.
Also Robin Trower’s Bridge of Sighs Anniversary Edition.

I’ve just checked them as well. Yep, still there.

If I click on the Purchases then the Released by:-

Then if I go to Public Image and the album:-

Very odd.

It’s strange I agree, and I think the desktop app may be behaving a little differently to the website store.

Albums which are to be removed (as far as I can tell) no longer register as previously purchased in the ‘cart’ at checkout - have they already been removed from the catalogue and replaced with seemingly identical releases maybe with a newer/different cataolgue number? t That’s happened to me with iTunes purchases in the past.

Interesting! What device do you play your Hi Res silver discs (presumably not CDs) on? (Your profile is hidden.)

Roger

Taking a couple as examples:

Jethro Tull:Benefit (50th Anniversary)
4 bog standard CDs which obviously can be played on the office Naim system (or indeed on the lounge AV system).
2 DVDs. One is a concert video, the other is DVD-Audio at 24bit/96kHz LPCM, DTS & AC3. These need the lounge AV 5.1 system.

Robin Trower: Bridge of Sighs (50th Anniversary)
3 bog standard CDs, playable in the office (or lounge AV)
1 Bluray-Audio at 24bit/48kHz LPCM & DTS, playable on the lounge AV. This one also has Dolby Atmos…but our modest AV system doesn’t stretch that far!)

Presumably the technology exists such that they could be ripped to a PC and then streamed, while the silver discs themselves are safely stored away.
