Check your nuts! (And bolts.)

We recently had our lounge / music room redecorated and so I moved my ATC SCM40As (and NSC22) to a different room. As part of this, I removed their foot spikes to minimise the risk of injury (they weigh 36kg each). When I reassembled them, I noticed that the bolts which attach the black base to the speaker cabinet itself were loose, so I tightened these and then re-installed the spikes.

Although the SQ has always been superb, previously, the stereo imagery was never as good as I expected. It was almost like the speakers were wired out-of-phase, with little presence in the centre of the sound stage. What a difference! Wonderful, crisp instrument placement across the entire stage post bolt tightening. I am a very happy bunny. Here’s a photo taken last night. (I expect that there are many on this forum who regularly do this sort of thing, but I never did.)

Good advise. Driver bolts/screws can work loose too over time. Periodically unplugging wires and a squirt of contact cleaner helps too. Not trying to teach anyone how to suck eggs …

You’d also improve the imaging by moving that sofa somewhere else.:+1:

Thanks, Mike. Unfortunately, the room is dual-use and so, inevitably, involves some compromise.
