Chord Sarum mains - replacing a plug

I attempted to replace the plug on my Chord Sarum T mains cable after the clamp holding the cable broke, which caused some of the strands to disconnect from the plug. When I disassembled it to fit a new plug, I noticed an additional loose conductor within the cable’s shielding. Can anyone advise how this strand should be correctly connected to the plug(s)?

It seems curious to take a £2,400 mains cable apart. Can you not put it back as it was and send it to Chord for repair? It looks like you’ve removed the IEC from the other end too.

Interesting to see the internals. The extra loose conductor sounds like the ARAY wire. I’d contact Chord for advice.

Looks strange. Is this a genuine Sarum T?

Yes, looks like they use coax.

And solid core wire inside the tube. Which breaks easy if you don’t handle it correct.

The area of metal there cannot be much.

@buns I used to have a Chord Sarum T 5 pin din:din cable.

I noticed the termination at one of the din ends was slightly loose.

It had no effect on performance but it annoyed me in such an expensive cable.

I contacted Chord … they sent me a brand new replacement though my cable was 2 years old.

Suggest you contact Chord Company

I’m struggling to see how that cable complies with any regs for use in the UK.

Maybe @Skeptikal could share his thoughts?

I wouldn’t plug it in. :scream:

Shouldn’t think Chord will touch it now. As HH asks…why the hell did you butcher a cable that cost so much?

Not sure that would be the case, I’ve always found them to be more than helpful (and quick too!) whenever I’ve needed to reterminate. Best thing would be to get in touch via your dealer.

I wonder if Daleks use Chord Cables.
They have the same problem. :wink:

Gosh that’s an expensive mains cable so I think I’d be contacting Chord for a solution

If Chord send new ones out maybe that tells us how much margin there is in cables… just a thought :grinning_face:

You cannot put a value on pixie dust :rofl:

I can’t believe how much cables cost…. the most expensive cables I ever owned were Tellurium Q Ultra Black speaker cables…. were they good? Yes… do I own them now?… no I sold them for a tidy profit

I’m quite happy with my NACA5 which seems to match the XS3 & ATC’s very well

Oh yes you can…… :sneezing_face: :sneezing_face::sneezing_face:

The back of my FraimLite is covered in the stuff.

On a serious note though, the OP should reach out to Chord, they’re really helpful folk, explain what’s happened and send it all back to them to be put back to factory condition, inc new parts if necessary.

It waaaayyy too expensive to bodge about with.
