Chord Sarum

Just got my system up and running now using 2015 Chord Sarum speaker cables…which were returminated by Chord with new Ohmic plugs. I am very impressed…every bit as good as Super Lumina + some….delighted. Sound is open, beautifully rendered, sibilence all but vanished together with good punch in the bass…The Sarum T must be awesome….

You had sibilance with Super Lumina? In my system it’s not even close. We all have so different presentations but it’s the sum of all parts we listen to

I have no doubt people change and hear something new, switch back after a month and realise it was a big and expensive mistake. The old chrysalis was musical but nothing I have heard from chord has impressed me. It reminds of listening to Naim in 80s comparing to exotic American hifi. One played music the other didn’t!

Same here Chord cables have never done anything for me. I find them overpriced clever marketing strategies

We have had this discussion over and over. There is no right or wrong People hear differently and value different things in music systems. I have always felt Naim cables that are supplied with components to be average at best. Others really like what they do and that is great i sm using SarumT interconnect and EpicX speaker cable. I am sure that SarumT speaker cable would be an improvement over EpicX, but given the length I would need, the cost would be prohibitive.

For me the Superlumina….were more on the edge…yes really good…I had them just over 6 years….and I would have continued with them but I needed extra length and could not get a pre loved 5m set … I did not expect the Sarum to perform as it has… When I talk about sibilence a very small percentage of albums were effected….to a small degree…now that has gone with no loss of hi frequency….

I ran a set of Sarum speaker cables (not T) and I was delighted with them. A lovely neutral but detailed natural sound quality in my living room.

I believe that speaker cables have quite a significant impact on the overall sound of our systems; and that the degree of impact is influenced by the acoustic properties of the room in which the hi-fi is located. I’m sure there are other variables also, but I think this helps explain the many differences of opinions about the same type of cable. Because of this variance I’m happy to believe everyone is correct - in their rooms!

Absolutely ….good to know you enjoyed them too.

I only changed them due to moving home and the new room required longer runs of cables. I tried an alternative cable set partly to save on replacement cost and partly because the new room has very different finishes, room shape and lower ceiling height. I have subsequently returned to chord speaker cables.

I don’t have experience with the Sarum but currently run Sarum T speaker cables. I upgraded from Chord Epic to Signature XL and finally to Sarum T. The Sarum T retains the qualities of the Signature XL and adds an organic touch to the sound with everything sounding more ‘human’ and as you have put it, vanished sibilance. Everything sounds a bit smoother, more vinyl than digital.

It’s diminishing returns when going up the Chord ladder. The Epic to Signature XL was a big jump to me night and day difference while the Signature XL to Sarum T isn’t. Nevertheless, it’s the small differences that make the (big) difference though as you go higher up the ladder.

I’ve reached the end of the ladder with cable upgrades as I realise I’ve spent too much already. The total cost of cables in my main system is around £13k actual price paid while the cost of the system is only ~£21k.

Thanks for the reply…great to hear about your experiences it’s interesting to have the correlation :+1:

I really enjoy my Chord Shawline X cables on both Naim systems (7 metre and 4 metre) with Chord Ohmic plugs.

Previous cables:

QED79/Cable talk/QED XT40i

Would consider Kudos KS1 if I go active with my new Titan 606’s

Chord Sarum a little too expensive for the lengths I would require.

@Sixtysomething you might want to consider SarumT just for the interconnect cables. I could not afford them for speaker cables as I needed 11 meters. I am using EpicX for my speaker cables. When I had the SN3 and NDX2 abd Rega P9, I clearly heard the difference moving from EpicX interconnect to SarumT. Ok on my NDX2. Now that I moved to NC, all my interconnect cables have been upgraded to SarumT. No regrets.

I only have two interconnects at the moment:

NDX2 to SN3 5 Pin Din is TQ Black

9000CDT to Atom is Shawline Digital

TQ Black big improvement on Naim’s own

Shawline Digital replaced Gotham Pro not a huge difference for the cost.

Spending capped currently!

Sarum would be nice to try.

Other items on the Horizon for 2026

@Sixtysomething Why both a SN3 and an Atom ?

Different rooms.
