Esoteric have quite an elaborate multibox streamer. 4 boxes for the source (transport, clock, twin mono DACs). Add their preamp, power supply, and monoblocks and you have 8 boxes purely for streaming.
Now whether that is “fleecing” someone is a matter of opinion. It’s certainly too rich for me. But for people who want these things in one box, they can just go buy a Nova. And if they think anything more is a con they can stop at a Nova too. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that - it’s serious hifi.
But really, in terms of conspiring to shaft the consumer, I think the outrage is misplaced. Insurance providers, financial institutions, real estate services, big tech are walking away with everyone’s money and making a killing. These hifi companies that are fleecing people are barely surviving.
