He has been suffering from poor health for quite a time, such a sad loss and agree far too young.

Such sad news the BBC are reporting the sad loss of Chis Rea at 74.

The man who bought us the perennial Christmas favourite Driving Home For Christmas along with so many excellent albums.

RIP Geordie lad

Sad news. I saw him play several times and enjoyed his guitar blues and distinctive voice.

Thankyou for the music Chris. Remembered his Xmas chat with BobMortimer and Paul Whitehouse on a fishing series a few years ago. Lovely music, lovely man, taken, so young.

A great artist, he sadly only lived to be 74. He had been struggling with his health for years.

Yes a great guitarist for sure and a prolific writer of music. A blues man at heart but could write a hit.

I like the album Auberge the best probably but there are many great songs on many of his. But there is something great about “Gone fishing” that hits the spot.

Really sad and too young.

I saw him about 30 years ago at the big MEN Arena and was a bit disappointed really. Lacklustre perfomance, sort of churning out all the hits he was having at his peak then. However, I saw him again at the small Manchester Apollo in 2017 (just before he collapsed and had to cut tour short) and he was absolutley superb. Pure class musician, with every song sounding ‘jammed’. Totally amazing and far better than any of his albums. Back to his roots music without the popular theme. And no, he didn’t play Driving Home For Christmas, even though it was just before. Thank God.

I also saw him at Outlon Park about 30 years ago. He was racing his Ferrari. Stood next to him for quite a while in the pits., and I could see what he was really like. Just a normal, humble bloke playing with his ‘blood red’ car.

His output is immense - the Blue Guitars boxset is a phenomenal achievement not to mention The Return of the Fabulous Hofner Blue Notes.

My favourite Chris Rea album is the brilliant ‘God’s Great Banana Skin’

Farewell Benny Santini.

A man after my own heart, and I couldn’t have expressed it any better, the Blue Guitars boxset is brilliant and a perfect showcase for showing off Chris’s guitar skills, The Return of the Fabulous Hofner Blue Notes, is a personal favourite, sad day today.

This is a lovely interview with Chris by a young man who you could assume, wrongly, wouldn’t appreciate this great musician.

His parting words to Chris are really nice.
