Concert / Gig Tickets what is your oldest ticket

Even worse though is the current trend of ‘your phone is your ticket’ meaning for the annaly retentive amongst us, we’ve got to print something off for the sake of being a completist.

What’s that all about? :joy:

Didn’t know that book was a thing, might have to get myself a copy after searching on Amazon.

I was there. Wish I’d kept the ticket.

They’re not bad at all, filled three now. Nice surprise present from my better half!

I am so massively jealous I don’t even know where to begin.
And if you could have heard me swearing at work that day when ticketmaster crashed leaving me ticketless for the before the dawn tour……. I’m still annoyed.

You do realise this ticket was for the 1979 shows?
And I’m sure there’s plenty of people that you’ve seen that I haven’t, I’d be envious if you’ve seen Joy Division, Bowie pre '78, Miles Davis, Original Led Zeppelin etc!

Yes I know it was the original tour. I was 9. Many years later and I still couldn’t go.

I have my ticket to Skynyrd in Feb 77 at Birmingham Odeon. Not at home at the mo so can’t show it. It cost me £3.25, what was going on???. Good though. Pete Heycock joined them for the encoures at the end. Good memories.

Afraid to say that I can’t remember much about it. I was into Bowie & punk and these long haired hippies that were in the audience just looked like old idiots, to my later embarrassment! I was with a mate and his older brother who promised that we’d enjoy it. I do remember the famous songs like Free Bird, Alabama.
My first gig that I really enjoyed (apart from the many punk groups in very small gigs like church halls etc) was Iggy in ‘77.

Not my earliest gig but one of my oldest ticket stubs. This was one of 2 shows recorded for the Genesis Live album, the other one being Leicester De Montfort Hall.

With the legendary String Driven Thing as support.

Two nights in a row. Front row on the second night.
Had actually seen them in 1975 at Hammersmith Odeon but can’t find the tickets.

Re @robert_h and Kate Bush shows.

I purchased a Hi Res download from Kate’s on-line store - I think it was 50 Words For Snow.
Some time later, out of the blue, came an email from them announcing the Hammersmith shows and inviting me to choose which night I would like tickets for. This was all pre-announcement.

I was utterly staggered and rushed to take advantage. Apologies if this is rubbing it in, but I cannot convey how great a show it was. Not that any one element was brilliant, but the combination of all the elements and Kate’s genuine surprise and pleasure at the audience reaction was like nothing I have ever experienced at a show. I’m quite glad a video has not been released as I would (selfishly) rather live on the memories.

Penny pinching, I expect. The buyer has to do all the hard work!

I thought I still had the ticket for the 1973 Elton John Yellow Brick Road Tour hidden in the programme, but it was not to be. So my oldest surviving ticket is McCartney and Wings from Newcastle '75. Also pictured are a couple of Clapton gigs from '76 and '77, plus a Lindisfarne Christmas show from '77, great times!

Always love to see who was support.

When I saw Bowie in 76 it was the Luis Bunuel film Un Chien Andalou

Now what the… was Mr. Pugh’s Puppet Theatre.

Ah, I wondered if anybody would spot that. Great name for a band eh? But no, it was a bloody puppet show  It was a guy called Ted Milton, who I believe was a mate of Clapton from way back and it was an unhinged Punch and Judy routine from what i remembered. It’s “meaning” went way over my head. EC couldn’t come on quick enough and didn’t let me down. Luckily, as you can see, it was Ronnie Lane the year after.

Marvellous!

Wow Andy, I have just googled Milton and he is not quite as obscure as I thought. However, with such goodies as “i Want To Go Poo Poo” and “Confessions Of An Aeroplane Farter” I think I will leave him as a hazy image from my past.

Not a case of the support up-staging the main act then.
