A massive collection of concert recordings is being digitised and put up online.
What an amazing project and a great archive, and I expect there are lots of historically important recordings in there. Clearly, it was done for his own enjoyment rather than financial gain. To be applauded, I feel.
I used to make recordings for some local bands using a Sony Walkman Pro. I mostly gave them the tape; very rarely, I would keep a copy. When I moved, the few tapes I had left went missing, most likely accidentally thrown out. Back when I was doing it, it was difficult for bands to do this themselves; most couldn’t afford to rent or buy a tape machine. I got into a gig for free and got at least one free drink. Some years ago, just before COVID, I bumped into a member of one of the bands, and they still had the tape. Since it was mainly for people I knew, it was very small-scale and nothing like this guy’s achievements.
The Sony Walkman Pro was/is a wonderful machine, I recorded number of gigs with mine, still have it. Sounded very respectable through my olive Naim system.
When I got my Walkman Pro, I used it with my 42/110. Recently, I gave mine to a friend’s daughter. She now makes mixtapes with it for her friends at uni. She also has my old unitilite.
