Good morning forum members,
I have recently purchased a Supernait 3 to replace my Nac112X/Nap150X. I have a CD5X player with its Flatcap 2X. Could you please help me connect these three units optimally using the correct cables? I haven’t been able to find a suitable cable connection diagram on the forum for my specific setup. Specifically, is it sufficient to connect the Flatcap 2X to the Upgrade input of the CD5X and then connect the CD5X to the CD input of the SN3?
Thank you in advance for any assistance. Maurizio
Here is the info you need.
Connect output of cd5x to line input on supernait.
Hi Maurizio,
Congratulations on your new, top-flight integrated Naim amp.
You may find that the existing preamp power supply within your SN3 is preferable to adding a Flatcap 2x. This may be especially so if the Flatcap 2x is unserviced.
You have the opportunity to try the SN3 both ways, with and without the FC2x, and decide which you prefer.
Best, Chris
The flatcap can happily power the cd player.
Don’t attach it to the supernait, there’s no point.
Thank you for your suggestions. Although I know that the Flatcap 2X cannot power the preamp section of the SN3 due to electrical incompatibility.
- Different Voltage Requirements;
- Different Design Purpose;
- Naim specifically recommends the Hicap DR as the appropriate external power supply to upgrade the preamp section of the Supernait 3.
My doubt was if the signal should through the Flatcap before arriving to the preamp section SN3
Thank you for your time,
Maurizio F.
There is no issue electrically using the FC2X with the SN3. As Chris and Robert have mentioned, this approach may not be beneficial.
Although the FC2X can supply two 24V power rails to the SN3 preamp section, it has the older LM317 based regulators. The SN3 has an internal DR regulator, supplying a single 24V rail to the SN3 preamp section. The FC2X will work nicely with the CD5X and as you say, the Hicap DR would be a better match with the SN3.
