Connection issue btw 62/140 & Hi-cap

Hi all,

I’m running an Olive Naim setup with the following components:

  • NAC 62
  • NAP 140
  • HiCap (serial no. 70xxx)

When I connect the NAC 62 directly to the NAP 140 using a SNAIC 4, everything works perfectly — both units power up and music plays without issue.

However, when I insert the HiCap into the chain (NAC 62 → HiCap via SNAIC 5, and HiCap → NAP 140 via SNAIC 4), the NAC 62 and HiCap both power on, but the NAP 140 stays completely off — no LED, no output.

I was under the impression that the HiCap supplies power to the NAP 140 through the 4-pin output, and therefore a separate mains connection for the NAP 140 wasn’t necessary in this configuration. But with the current setup, the 140 only powers on if I plug it directly into mains.

A few questions:

  1. Does the Olive NAP 140 require its own mains power even when connected through a HiCap?
  2. If not, what could be going wrong here?
  3. All cables are genuine Naim SNAICs with correct orientation — is there anything else I should be checking?

Appreciate any advice from those with experience using this classic combo.
Thanks in advance!

The hicap powers the 62, not the 140.
Everything with an IEC socket needs to be connected to the mains; in other words, the hicap and the 140.
Without the hicap in place, the 140 provides power to the 62.

Happy listening

Hicap power up the preamp.
Both Hicap and poweramp need mains.
Owners manual should be available free online
Take notice of Snaics direction.
