I found an old BNC-BNC 75ohm cable so thought I’d try my Core to 333 connected this way. I’ve enabled digital input 1 on the 333, but when I play a track from the Core I get no sound.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks,
Graeme

I think there may be a bug with the App because I’ve had similar problems recently. Unplug the Core and try again - it will work but for how long? Weirdly it works using the network server method just fine. It’s almost as if the App loses contact with the Core. I’m waiting for mine to do it again and I’m going to try and get error logs to send to Naim.
Thanks. I’ve just got the Core, so it’s all new to me.
In terms of settings - If I play an album from the Core does it automatically play through SPDIF? How do I know it’s doing this and not playing over the network?
Do you mean unplug from the mains and reconnect?
Cheers,
Graeme
You still need to have the Network Ethernet cable plugged in.
Thanks. When you say ‘exit the 333’, I do this by simply then selecting the Core, and play an album from there?
Cheers, again.

Yes it’s just a case of selecting the correct input on the 333, then exiting the 333 on the app, selecting the Uniti Core on the app and picking a tune. Hope that helps.
Many thanks indeed. Now I just need to remember my NAS password and share name as it’s not seeing it.
Grrr…if I’d known it was going to be so tricky. I’ll try tomorrow and hopefully all will come good.
Again, thanks for your help.

It’s been a while since I owned the Core, but I seem to remember when using the BNC out of the Core, you had to select the Core in the Naim App, rather than the streamer, which is different from using UPNP. Where is David when you need him?
I select albums from the Core through the NDX2 not through the Core. Select the Server icon. I only go into the Core to edit, back up, restore, monitor rips etc. Nothing plays from there. I’m using BNC which automatically overrides WiFi/ Ethernet.
If you mean me, then I am here!
Yes you have to tell the Core what to play with the Naim app if you want to use it as a hard disc player, using the Core page in the Naim app.
If you are happy to use UPNP then you select the servers setting in the streamer page on the Naim app, choose the Core and choose your music from there.
I too suspect this is a case of the relevant digital input on the 333 not having been turned on (which you do using the Naim app of course).
I suspect that this isn’t doing what you think it’s doing at all!
What do you suspect then? Naim support told me the BNC auto overrides Ethernet. Keen to learn.
If you’re using the servers input in app the Core is serving via uPnP, as described above.
Not S/PDIF.
When you select servers input the NDX2 is pulling content from the Core via URL over ethernet.
Yes exactly. I think that either Naim support were incorrect or else @twofifty misunderstood what Naim support was saying.
Thanks all. I’m still unable to get the Core to see my NAS, despite putting in my username and password.
Luckily I had all my albums backed up on a portable drive so am busy copying them over to the HDD in the Core (I hope it is ‘copying’ them from the portable - ie not moving them off the portable?).
Can’t understand why it’s not picking up my NAS.

Have you set your NAS as a Music Share in the Core set up?
That’s what I’m trying to do, David. It asks for a name and password, which I put in, then nothing happens. Where am I going wrong?
Thanks!
G
PS Will the Core tell me when it’s finished transferring files from the portable drive to the internal HDD?
I must admit I don’t know much about using a NAS with a Core because I never actually tried to. So maybe someone else who does know will come to the rescue.
But I thought that you could allow the Core guest access to the NAS (in the NAS setup) and so not require any credentials. You might also need to look at the NAS setup from the point of view of what protocols it will allow a guest to use. The Core uses SMB2 or 3. But there is another thread which discusses the fact that the Core has a bug that it tries to do a brute force connection using SMB1, which it doesn’t need and shouldn’t be doing, but I have seen this myself since reading that thread as I kept getting warning messages on an old windows 7 laptop while I was using it to do 4.9 updates on my old streamers. I believe Naim now know about this, but when/if they will fix it is anyone’s guess.
Thanks, David.
