Country / Crossover / Americana

As the fastest growing genre in the UK (and probably elsewhere) I’m surprised no one’s started a thread about country and variations thereof.

From souly, bluesy Chris Stapleton to folky Zach Bryan to rocky Jason Aldean to hip hop tinged Jelly Roll, there’s some brilliant music to be had. Even the pop stars Beyoncé and Chapel Roan are at it.

Any other fans out there (and bands or artist they’d recommend)?

Does Ryan Adams fall in here?

Probably falls into the Americana category…yes

Love some of his stuff particularly this

Loved his Gold album then he went for quantity over quality for a few years. He then came out “Do you still love me?” Which is great. Reminds me of Tom Petty at his best.

That’s really good. Sounds sublime on Tidal on a pretty shabby hifi.

Favourites for me are the Chicks, and John Fogerty. Not keen on redneck performers. Beyonce was a surprise

What do you mean by “redneck performers”?

Another Zach Bryan one I’m partial to

CCR were my first big rock band, yes they did X over well. Always sounded like they came from down south not the San Fran Bay Area!

Larkin Poe ? A wide range of material
, and their videos through the Pandemic were wonderful, and their rendition of Sounds Of Silence ( in their Jim Jams ) is wonderful

CCR for me is in the Southern Rock category but I love that too so bring it on. Maybe The Band is the ultimate Americana?

Can I put Jackson Browne in the mix?

We seem to be heading down the classic/70s rock route…was hoping for some more recent discoveries.

With a fantastic back catalogue of well crafted songs with some thought provoking lyrics across numerous albums and musical styles then Steve Earle has to be in the list.

Btw, for anyone that is into southern rock, Americana, etc., Drive By Truckers’ Southern Rock Opera is brilliant.
