Mike - another drop off JA today, this time Buttler - overtly simple catch but the ball, per the language of the commentators, went like a Ronaldo free kick and swung upwards after being nicked.
It is interesting to see in slo-mo how the ball, after being hit, ceases to spin. An interesting phenomenon.
Yes - and it seems particular to the Duke ball.
When taught to bowl, I was told to angle one’s wrist and keep the seam upright to generate swing &/or seam, with the odd cross seam grip to generate kick from the wicket. Nowadays, it’s notable that Abbas and Broad (to name 2 bowlers) bowl with scramble seam, which often means the ball seams and swings after pitching – all part of the natural variation of the game. I’ve often thought Broad has a strong right-arm in-swinger’s action, as he’s quite open chested on delivery and he complements this type of delivery very well with the scramble seam deliveries.
…I do wonder though why it took him so long to learn to pitch the ball up a bit, which has been a route to success over the last few years, especially against the Aussies in England.
Am I going to get to bed early tonight or will we see some cricket.
Pete - the forecast suggests wind & rain until at least 1pm UK time…after that it looks unreliable, as the storm blows through.
I would get some sleep. Another heavy rain storm across S England may pass by mid afternoon but will be a very wet ground by then.
I’d just like to point out we had about 10 weeks without rain spring and early summer when locked down!
Sure
Not looking good! Outfield very ‘squishy’. Here’s hoping Jimmy gets a few overs later …
Plat at 4.15 it appears!
And they are out, lets hope for 3 hours worth!
No prospect of a result so not really enthralling apart from the possibility of the 600th wicket for Anderson.
Only reason I am watching really, although quick 3 or 4 wickets might liven things up.
And he’s done it!!
Fantastic, he just got the 600.
Great Job Jimmy!!!
It could be argued that the only “bowlers” ahead of him are Warne and Kumble. Amazing effort.
Deserves a crowd, well done Jimmy you miserable bugger!
I’ll forgive Murali now, all that kerfuffle seems a long time ago. My initiation was seeing Joel Garner blasting Oxbridge batsmen at The Parks couldn’t believe how fast he was. They looked truly terrified!
Chuka Khan…
He’s been the worlds leading fast bowler for some time, & I doubt we will see another fast bowler 600 for quite a while.
