As an aside, do any other Londoners here find their brain filling in a pub name every time Doggett’s name is mentioned?https://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/restaurants/london/doggettscoatandbadgesouthbanklondon#/

(I used to occasionally drink there in the ‘80s/‘90s with colleagues.)

I watched 2 hours or so and in fairness England bowled superbly. Agressive, accurate and challenging. The wickets I saw were earned rather than given away. Pressure generates poor shots sometimes.

Looks like I will be up early and watching again tomorrow!

Good to see England with some bowling fire power. The batsmen need to play with some discipline, they have plenty of talent. Recent history suggests that they won’t.

The boundaries in Perth are huge, trying to hit sixes with men out is dangerous. I think both side will see a lot of short stuff with this in mind.

Exciting though!!

I met Monty in a cafe in Norwich with a group of young cricketers he was coaching. A real gentleman and dedicated cricketer. Can’t his unsuccessful test career be put to bed?

Just got home and watched the highlights. The Aussies bowled well but our bowlers were on fire. It’s a long time since England dismissed 9 of Australia’s finest in this manner on their own turf in a test match. Hopefully this will encourage our batsmen to raise their game in the next innings and get a decent score. How about one batsman at least digging in like Geoffrey Boycott?

For the sake of clarity there was no comment on Panesar cricketing ability. His Test record was actually very decent. Averaging 34 with the ball, which is the same as Moeen, and much better than Giles.

I stand corrected. I seem to remember he was picked for an Ashes series in Australia and most people thought he would play but he was not selected. He was our best spin bowler at the time. Anyway, this is off topic. Let’s hope we are celebrating a 1st test victory …

Have to hope we can keep our bowlers fit because if we can I think the series is ours to lose.

This is the poorest Aussie batting lineup I can remember.

Has there been a faster battery of bowlers in an England team before this?

A Crawley special in the second innings would be useful.

Absolutely it is, that they dropped Beau Webster who provides some steel in the lower middle order was just bizarre. A very handy bowler too…

Head is woefully out of form and to keep picking a 38 YO Khawaja and well past his prime , says all you need to know about the batting talent that’s available….

That we don’t have the opening spots locked in doesn’t help either.

If Cummins and Hazelwood aren’t available for all or most of the remaining Tests it’s going to be an England Series win - and by a fair margin.

Well, England were doing OK….what on earth was Brook doing?

IMHO, England aren’t mentally prepared for Test cricket.

I just woke up and took 4 wickets. :frowning:

Brook can play so well conventionally, just seems unable to adapt to the game situation. I don’t mind him dancing around with 350 on the board but not at 76 for 4.

Cook summed it up well. 3 wickets from playing higher-risk shots in a low-scoring game, with a strip which is doing a bit.

Crawley’s demise earlier wasn’t dissimilar. The term ‘play yourself in’ appears to have been consigned to history.

At some point I fear a batsman is going to realise that this isn’t a minefield and actually play properly.

Implosion ! A woeful batting performance.

Another match where a good position is tossed away by idiotic batting. I’m really fed up with it . It is self destruction.

Sadly it looks like England are going to get what they deserve.

Well, I’ll have to eat my hat then.

Head ain’t out of form now :rofl::rofl:

Head has shown that it is possible to score freely and they will deservedly win given such clueless shot selection from England today.

On a more positive note England batted for two more overs in their 2nd innings. They managed 34 overs. Lol.

I see England had a lead of 100 at lunch with only one down. Quite an achievement to lose in the same day from there.

That’s the ashes done and dusted. Good job they took a phycologist to get them in the right frame of mind!
