Proper cricket.

"Maddinson’s return, almost 10 years after the last of his previous three Tests, was tortuous.

He faced 33 balls and did not score a run, making his duck the longest by an Australian opener in Test history - the third-longest by any Test opener."

Yes, shame there were so few there .

Didn’t know that. I listened to the first hour on Talk sport 2, then got on with the day. The Talk sport commentary sounded like two blokes who were watching it on TV.

What I saw it looked like a Country game in May…
Huge swathes of empty seats

That’s very sad.

I have two friends who are going to SA for part of the England tour. I think a fair few Brits will be there.

Well they will have great hospitality

Yes, there were some Australian fans there, but I also saw empty stands . A great shame .

11/10 to Australia their fans do travel all around the world in support of their country @Pete_the_painter

I fell asleep when the Aussies were 5 for something. The atmosphere at the ground is completely absent, there’s more people on the field than in the stands.

There was definitely more Australians in the stands than South Africans .
A real shame :flushed_face: :flushed_face::flushed_face:

Tough day for Australia having chosen to bat.187 for 6 when Durban’s apparently inevitable bad light intervened after only 62 overs. Some fine pace bowling. Appeared to be a shockingly poor crowd for the World Test Champions playing at home vs Australia.

Selectors still trusting Smith and Labuschagne. Feel a bit sorry for the new opener Maddinson. A 32 ball duck, it would have been kinder if SA had decided to appeal an lbw shout after about half that!

So an English guy scores 190 against South Africa. Serious innings.

Great innings from the kid. Nearly 50% of the runs.

Good to see Australia investing in youth. Renshaw at 30 is the youngest player in the team, average age is over 34. This bowling attack may get free bus travel when they tour England next year! They are of course fine players but how long can they continue?

I got the impression from the build-up that Labuschagne and maybe Smith are just about hanging on to their places and this tour may be make or break for them, although that seems to have been the case for a while.

Eng touring SA for a Test series this winter is going to be a serious challenge for our young side too.

I applied for a job which sounded great.
It’s a contract for a year. You travel the world watching Cricket. Normally from excellent seats. You get to hang out with England cricketers which is great, plus you get to bowl in the nets with them. Sometimes you have to serve them drinks.

I thought I would be quite good at this but I just heard that Shoaib Bashir got the job again.

(Actually. I hope he comes good)

Ollie Robinson has a 1 year contract. His return in 2025 is 21 wickets in 3 Tests at 9 against Pakistan, 7 wickets at 11 in his one Test against New Zealand.

Seems they don’t quite trust him. Bit odd.

Yes, looking forward to the Boxing Day test, the South African sun is a welcome sight on Boxing :boxing_glove: Day.

I can only assume that there have been some behavioural or health issues that aren’t disclosed.

On a different subject the Saracens player who hit Atkinson when Stokes was dropped from the captaincy has been sacked by Saracens for another incident.

According to TMS, Rob Key says it’s to keep him keen.

Only England would treat a world class bowler in that manner. No wonder we are low in the rankings.

Or perhaps it was to avoid a repeat of the debacle of having Bairstow on a 2 year contract when he did not raise his bat or gloves in the cause?
