Enjoying the world championships. Just a couple of thoughts…
Sad to hear Sir Chris Hoy has cancer. He is so noble.
Stunning world pursuit race - congratulations to Anna Morris.
Very sad for Sir Chris - but on a positive note, great to see Katie Archibald back to near her best. She’s had a very difficult 18 months or so, and I wonder if she had been at the Olympics whether the women’s team would have gained a few more Golds?
Know little of cycling but Sir Chris Hoy, how tragic.
A truly inspirational man.
I remember a news item on him just before the finals at London 2012. They showed his training regime which included going so hard on a static bike that the session would end with him curled up on the floor in absolute distress.
Come the final, he was a few lengths down with half a lap to go. He stuck on the afterburners and won by a length ! All that training and pain for about 4 seconds of absolute power and brilliance
Amazing
Just catching up with this, incredibly sad.
…and his wife also very ill. Terrible for their children….
I didn’t realise. As you say a terrible time for their family. Obviously I only know Hoy from TV but what a decent bloke he seems to be.
Yes always seems to happen to the nice people
I’m a keen cyclist, although mainly follow road racing. I’ve had some involvement with British Cycling on a volunteer level, some of the commitment pro cyclists and the people around them give to team performance is off the charts. Their achievements have all been well deserved.
As a cyclist myself (I pedal but at no great speed) I’m in awe of pro cyclists. From Beryl Burton, through Hoy to Cavendish I don’t see any finer British athletes. Fit, technical and very brave.
As an aside, when I visited a urologist earlier this year he explained that undue pressure on the perineum can cause prostatitis. He then asked, among other questions, if I drove a tractor or rode a bike.
