Dac V1 vs hicap/62

Maybe a strange question but I am running a node 2i into a hicap and 62 cb in to a 250 classic. I would like to tidy up the look and am wondering whether a V1 would replace the cb hicap/62 with its optical input and onboard pre amp. Would the sq be similar?

I tried something similar when i had a V1 in my second system. Feeding the node to the V1, V1 to 250. In short, didnt like it. The 72/hc was clearly doing something better for me.
In the end sold the V1 as i already had the nDac.
Little love for the V1, despite the release notes etc it never appeared to get loved. Mone was ok, the nDac was better though.

Thanks. It is an expensive mistake to make, buying from the UK and then trying to sell on if I don’t like it. It sounds as though the hicap/ 62 might stay.

I would, i did ! Which reminds me, i need to swap my 72 for my recently serviced 62. If nothing just to check it works.

Hi Bruss, last year I was like you, I thought it would be an ideal way to reduce boxes. But the result is, Dac V1 could do the job, but couldn’t do it well – far better being only a standalone Dac. There are plenty of videos on Youtube discussing why preamp is still needed today.

The V1 looks like an ideal package. Pre, dac and headphine amp.I used it as all three but still prefeered the nDac, 72 and MF X- Cans v2 in seperate packages. But, if space and budget were an ussue and comparisons not made, its more than ok.
I struggled to sell mine. I had one joker who insisted it was only worth £200. Told him to take his £200 and prove it. In the end sold it to someone who appreciated it for a lot more than £200.

Reading through the past posts on the V1 seems to suggest its weakness is the pre, and connecting to anything other than the nap 100 exposes that weakness.

That makes sense. It was a decent dac and a particularly decent headphone amp.

I have recently changed from a DAC V1 and NAP100, which I bought new nine years ago and loved, to a Nait 50. They sound utterly different. Haven’t tried the DAC V1 with the Nait 50.

I’m interested in this - contemplating a DAC -V1 for the sunroom system. Initially to use as a stand-alone DAC but later on as a DAC into my Arcam A28 (for the open baffle system) and as DAC/pre-amp into a NAP100/155XS/200 to power Tannoys in the same room that currently run off the speaker 2 set on the Arcam.

In my comparisons, whenever I put the Nac 72 in front of the Nap 140/200, instead of the Dac V1 as a pre-amp, the difference is visible. However, the DacV1 partners very well with both amps and if the speakers are not demanding and you have a good streamer in front of the Dac V1, you can have a really nice and engaging system.
