I’m sure, as with all things, it’s unfair to paint the whole of the UK with the same brush on anything.
Though I grew up thinking (wrongly) that there were no cockroaches in the UK. The first one I ever saw in my life was in the waiting room at the local hospital for X-rays. A few years after I emigrated away from the UK I found out that due to NHS budget cuts they had closed that hospital to everything except A&E and a few years after that even that vanished. This is a town of 60,000 people and now has no hospital at all. Nearest one is in Oxford 20 miles away.
The NHS is a funny institution. We brits moan about it incessantly and point out it’s many flaws. Though when the same criticisms are voiced by neighbours on the continent or anywhere else, the knives come out as if they’d called your baby ugly. Suddenly it is a sacred cow.
As others have said this is probably to give you the best chance of recovery from 2 major operations. Keep on at them to get the liver done. Take care of yourself mate.
So some different news. I have a BMW 20d SE 2013. Just had front bumper repaired, rear quarter panel repaired which had deep rust, one seal cover replaced, the other one repaired, 3 dents taken out, whole car polished. I must say it looks immaculate for an 11 year old car.
And they charged me a few hundred pounds less than originally quoted. Very happy with the motor!
Been listening to Revolver and now Wish you were here. System sounds incredible on vinyl. Was listening to Russian Techno station and Kool London earlier. Did the new firmware update on ND555.
So been quite a bit going on with liver op being set up end of month. Unfortunately between the three hospitals dealing with me mistakes have been made and my operation which was meant to be tomorrow has been cancelled needlessly! I was told yesterday that it didn’t matter what op is done first whether it be liver or lung. So this has pushed treatments back a further 4 weeks. Will discuss the situation with oncology cosultant on tuesday next week to try to find out what has gone so wrong with the scheduling, admin and planning of these two ops.
I am considering going through PALS, making a complaint and legal action. I will see what they say next week about it all.
I should not have had to wait what will be 6 months for an operation after chemotherapy. Needless to say I am angry and upset about what has happened here.
Off to London Guys hospital for respiratory test, in preparation for lung op. So this is the thing l, this will be my 3rd trip for preop lung surgery. Things just aren’t what they should be. It’s 5 hours of travelling alone for each visit by train.
Anyway, been working and seeing kids. Keeping fit and strong. Keeping my mind occupied and staying positive. I am beating cancer in my mind and we will get over these hiccups.
I know what you mean Dan. I’m going through some similar frustration with NHS things not linking up. Fortunately mine is less urgent than yours and I can only imagine how different it is in your situation. Keep on the case and stay strong Dan. Best wishes.
I have been completely on the case and am making notes of conversations and what I have been told and then what happens.
You really couldn’t make it up. Cancelling my lung op, being told liver op needs to be done first. Then being told by Liver department can’t do the op until end of October and can’t the lung be done first? And being told it doesn’t make any difference on the order of the two ops.
And when I put something in writing they don’t answer directly. Makes you think they are covering themselves and not admitting any liability.
They keep coming up with different excuses and their points never make any sense. It gets to a point where apologies for delays are unacceptable. Due diligence hasn’t happened. And we are now looking at negligence.
Dan’s experience doesn’t reflect well on the state of our beloved NHS. Radical overhaul needed. Hopefully Dan will not experience any more damaging delays
Dan, I’m not sure if you need this but if Richard can let you have my email address I have a solicitor who specialises in NHS problems, both in getting the service required and in finding any wrong doing or missed opportunities. You may of course get your procedures before she has a chance to intervene but it’s there if you need it.
Good luck with it all. Rooting for you.
I have made a start with PALS email. I have spoken about lack of due diligence and medical negligence in the delays and cancellation of my operation.
At this stage I want my two ops booked and don’t want any further mistakes.
Preop assessment is booked for 10th October for liver. Stuff is being done. It’s the operation cancellation which is the biggest mistake. And then all the delays with meeting upon meeting, scans not being booked in.
Things could have happened more quickly and would have hoped for operations in July or August not late October.
