We are going by Eurostar to Brussels, then a high speed train to Rotterdam and a local train for three nights in Delft, then train to Antwerpen for two nights. We were there in 2020 just as news of the pandemic was breaking. We couldn’t visit the fine art museum because it was still shut after seven years in restoration. But now it’s open! And hopefully no pandemics.
Some Eurostars go directly to Rotterdam others force a changeover in Brussels with Thalys.
From Rotterdam it’s only 10 minutes to Delft (regular IC train), and half an hour to Antwerpen (IC Direct train). Happy to buy you two a beer in Rotterdam, Nigel!
I worked for Fortis in Brussels in a past life and they had some of their buildings connected via tunnels too.
Really like your humour
I’ll pay the next round
I recall nearly being trapped many years ago in the labyrinthine parking garage dug in the hillside on which those Fortis offices were built.
Sadly we will be in Rotterdam for just 15 minutes to change trains, but thanks for the kind offer. I didn’t realise that all these places were so close. We are going to Delft having discovered that Vermeer was born there, and we are going to Den Haag to see the Goldfinch painting. An art-led holiday. Then Antwerpen for the art museum and my birthday.
Delft according to Vermeer.
Delft to Den Haag is again only 10 minutes with that same IC train and an even more interesting city to visit, the government residence.
Sounds like a great birthday trip, enjoy!
Not very art-related, but my favourite cocktail place is at Den Haag!
Enjoy your trip HH!
Thanks. Last year it was Paris, the year before was Strasbourg, and for next year we are looking into decamping to Padova for a month. Mrs HH is researching apartments.
While you are in Den Haag you could pop into the Escher museum . Only 5 mins walk from the Mauritshuis ( on Lange Verhout) . Some nice restaurants near there as well .
