Dcs Varese

Just seen a glowing review of the new dcs Varese streamer/dac in the Feb edition of Hi-Fi News.

Features a 5 box set up comprising user interface, master clock and mono dacs.

The reviewers (Andrew Everard & Paul Miller) awarded it an impressive 94% for sound quality.

Those of you with deep pockets will need to shell out an eye watering £217,500!

@Dunc are you up for trading in your Rossini?

I wonder what the missing 6% consists of?

That would bug me.

I wonder how sound quality is quantified?

Regardless, 6% more and it will be perfect, with no improvement or other streamer ever being able to beat. But then there’s the law of diminishing returns, so I guess 97% will cost £435k, 98.5% £870k, 99.25% £1.74M etc, and of course 100% will never quite reached.

Now what is needed now is a percentage for value for money…

The only thing I can say about this is that DCS does make some much more affordable DACs and Amps that are industry leading, and the DACs have controls that allow them to be connected directly to the amplifier. A built in preamp I suppose.
It’s all excellent kit from the many things I have read, and watched, regarding it, and DCS one of only 2 audio manufacturers that I would have in place of Naim.
The 3rd audio manufacturer would be Ayre.

If I were to ever downgrade. Might go for dCS Lina+Clock and NAP350. 4 boxes of reasonable HiFi.

Exactly.

Hi
I wish i could afford it, but the reality is that only very few can or have the system to fully exploit it.
It has been reviewed by a few now, and all are saying the same. Basically the best digital they have ever heard.
The good news is that dCS has already stated that trickle-down stuff from it will be arriving to us this year. So that’s something to look forward to.
Also, i don’t own the rossini any more, that went a while ago. I have the 3 box vivaldi apex set up these days, and very good it is to.

Cheers dunc

Also got a factory visit planned for early next month. So not only see it all being made and tested. But get to hear it as well.

I’m with Spinal Tap on this one: 101% or nothing!

That certainly puts it in context, and the market they’re aiming at.

Mostly Chinese

Maybe. After all it’s not really expensive enough for the truly super rich. But if a manufacturer of good gear were to take their current top model, make some cosmetic modifications on the circuit board, and place in a 24 carat gold box (the empty box weighing maybe 20kg and costing £1.5M), then declare it as a unique one of a kind flagship of flagships never to be repeated unless the original purchaser were to order more, with an auction starting price of £10M, I bet there’d be bidders.

You forgot the zirconium encrusted control knobs…

A good source for a Statement for only the price of a standard UK house…. I suppose it’s a bit more than the ‘I can buy a car for that’ that we hear so much.

Well i know off 3 Varese systems that have been ordered here in the UK, there obviously might be more.
But mostly they are vivaldi customers upgrading.

Will ask how many orders dCS have received so far when i am at the factory in a few weeks time.
