If she can use a HomePod, she can use a Naim streamer. You can use the same Apple interface for both.
You obviously canāt control a streamer with two devices at the same time but yes, you could use it as you suggest. I donāt know about Apple Music and how it would connect - through Googlecast I imagine.
Following my accident in 2016 when I ended up in a coma I had a seemingly endless procession of appointments with psychologists, neuropsychologists, neurologists and audiologists, and frequent discussions with my lawyer and occupational health before everything was finally resolved last summer. It was a total nightmare. As you have said previously music is a huge solace in all of this this. Given all the big stuff in your life I do think a simple approach is good. If you go for it big time you may end up with more than you need to make you satisfied.
I guess if you have only a few hundred CDs then ripping them to a Nas could be the best thing and avoid the need for a CD player. With the ND youād get access to internet radio and online steaming, which may or may not be what you want. We donāt have a CD player in the house which is occasionally a nuisance when people lend us CDs to listen to. Generally, though, itās fine.
Excuse me H.H, Could you please tell me what these connectors are for? I am assuming DIN connector for audio and another for the power supply. Are Snaic the special $1,350 AUD connectors?
Warm regards,
Paul.
When you buy your Flatcap it will come with one 5 pin Snaic, which you can use to power the CD5XS. To use it with the Nait as well, you will need to buy a 5 pin and 4 pin Snaic. In the UK they cost Ā£150 each I think. If you look in your Nait manual you will see the relevant connections and this will make sense.
Sometimes I have to pinch myself a bit and tell myself that replaying music at home is supposed to be a pleasure!
Chris
I wouldnāt bother with a Flatcap in your situation - the improvement it brings is subtle IME. The CDX2 is in a different league and the price difference between this and the combined lesser CDP + FC isnāt huge.
Dear Svetty,
You are quite correct.
I spoke to Number 2 dealer yesterday and he recommended the CDX2. The price of a CD5XS and a Flatcap comes in at $6,000 AUD. The price for a CDX2 comes in at $7,000 AUD. The former would allow me to purchase a ND5 XS2 and maybe some head phones. The latter only the headphones. I am expecting to pay up to about a $1,000 AUD for headphones.
Dealer oneās Naim Specialist was away yesterday. I will be speaking to him today at around 10am.
The ND5 XS2 costs about $4,300 after 10% discount.
Then there is the option of keeping the Marantz CD-85 with its optical output and purchasing a ND5 XS2 and miss out on owning a Naim CD player.
I will be guided by Dealer Oneās specialist whom I have built a relationship with. Dealer two will be ringing back today to advise if a CDX2 is still available from the warehouse. Fingers crossed.
Warm regards,
Paul.
Actually, on with the new platform streamers, you can!
With a relatively small collection like that, you could put them on a USB stick. Put it in the USB port on a Naim streamer, and you donāt need to run any network storage.
You can use Airplay to stream Apple Music to a Naim streamer, in the same way as you can use it with a HomePod.
Yes, you can put the Naim app on as many iPhones/iPads as you want.
Hello Everyone,
Good News, I have a Plan B, you
Bad News, no CDX2 and still to hear back if there are any CD5 XS CD players available.
Though I am told that there are streamers and Uniti Cores available. I do have two Blue Ray Disks that are audio disks at 24bit 96kHz. Everything else is 44.1kHz, 16bit.
The digital optical output of my old CD-85 is 44.1 kHz 16 bit.
What would be my next best move if everything goes pair shaped please? I have been told, as my router ethernet ports are full. I require a switch. Any recommendations by those that have been there and done that would be appreciated.
I am still trying to stay under $10,000 AUD.
Possibly I should just purchase a set of headphones and forget about everything else. Another simple solution.
Warm regards,
Paul.
Well my Naim Dealer one came through with the goods. I have on order a Naim CD5 XS and Flatcap XS 2 the last one of each in the country. I will await for my super payment around Friday and purchase the ND5 XS 2. Any help with the ND5 XS 2 will be gratefully appreciated.
I have also ordered the extra Din 4 pin and 5 pin cables. The party is at my place. Everybody will have to find their own flights
Lucky boy I am.
Thank you every one yet again. Simple works.
Warm regards,
Paul.
Congratulations, well done with a great decision and fun to look forward to.
Post your questions here and weāll help you through everything.
For a switch, I use a standard Netgear 5 way switch, which works fine.

Hi Paul, late to the party but I would just like to add my congratulations on your choice.I still run a CD5x and Flatcap 2x ,which you know are older models than you have chosen , but they are paired with the Supernait 2 , punch above their weight and the sound is sublime.Allow a little time for the new gear to run in and you will have years of superb sound quality and enjoyment
Thank you AlanP for your comment. I am so looking forward to my delivery. In a way I am happy the CDX2 was not available as it showed me how lucky I was to have the last CD5 XS and Flatcp XS 2. I will start a new topic about streamers and storage soon.
Again, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to post and put in their two bobs worth. It was all gratefully appreciated.
Warm regards,
Paul in Oz.
