I’m about to order the Gigawatt G-16A along with the LC-Y EVO 3X4 in-wall cable. Is there a reason why you would not take the LC-Y EVO 3X4? Depending on the run the Furutech is much more expensive.
My understanding is that it’s best to avoid multiple runs of cable to separate sockets. This can I believe lead to different potentials on the earths which can adversely affect sound quality and cause noise. I would just have one double socket and use a high quality distribution block
Personally I would stick to either standard MK or Crabtree sockets. Unswitched are usually recommended but some people claim that the switched sockets actually sound more musical due to their earthing arrangement. I have no idea if this is true or not.
Whatever, I would avoid special audiophile sockets of any description as they can have unpredictable effects on the sound and the music.
Received wisdom is that 10 mmsq cable should be used but I have also heard the view that 6mmsq is more musical. I have only once fitted a dedicated spur, which was at our last property, and I have to say that this assertion was borne out for me. I actually reverted to using the standard ring main such was the musical superiority of it.
The whole thing is complicated by some people claiming that a ring circuit is musically superior to a radial. This is apparently why Music Works wire their blocks as mini ring circuits.
You need to get all this right if you are to achieve the maximum benefit from the installation. There is more to it than initially meets the eye.
My electrician thinks we have all lost the plot!
All the hard work is completed now just the final connections to do, cu installed, cables in place then hopefully we will see if all this has been worth the effort.
Cost so far has been pretty reasonable, cable 3x 8m of 10mm2, cu and internal parts plus new meter tails and a Henley block works out about £200, isolator fitted by Western power £270, so just the sparks labour to go on top, so not a stupid amount hope it’s worth it.
No reason at the moment, it is also under consideration, as is Oyaide EE/F-S 2.0 or 2.6. The Gigawatt and Oyaide cables are both solid core and OCC which, on paper, might have sonic advantages vs the Furutech. Furutch will be easier to manage (being stranded) but the copper is treated OFC. It’s difficult to find any real comparisons.
I bet so do 95% of all partners, and friends
So true! You should have seen the look on my nieces face when I showed her my Furutech outlet.
More Tea, Vicar ?
