Delivery Company (eBay)

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong category. I have purchase an item from an eBay seller with a low rating. They have taken their time in responding to messages in the past and now just as the delivery date was due to expire they have sent tracking details. The Delivery Company is Globe Line Shipping; I’ve never heard of them and neither has anyone I know.

The Good News

They have a website and when I punch in the tracking details a delivery date is shown. The seller details are also shown and so are the item details.

The Not So Good News

The website doesn’t appear to be complete i.e. I click on areas where it says ‘read more’ and there is nothing. There is a phone number which is just an answerphone and messages are not returned. I tried to get a quote to send an item but got nothing. There are no reviews of this company on line that I can find and Scamadvisor give them a low rating and say ‘it may be a scam’.

These days eBay no longer run the system whereby the buyer marks items as received. It works on an automated process directly from the seller’s delivery company. Once they say the item has been delivered then the seller gets their money. I know it would have to be elaborate in this case making up a fake delivery company, putting together a website etc, etc, and the seller would have to be linked into this but I believe that similar scams have been ‘pulled’ before.

Has anyone had any similar experience? Does anyone have any advice?

Many thanks in advance

Why are you buying stuff from eBay if the seller has low ratings? See if item arrives. If it doesn’t open a case with eBay. Keep things simple. EBay will give your money back if item doesn’t arrive.

The company looks ok to me. Just wait and see if it arrives, as Dan says, and if it doesn’t arrive ask eBay for your money back. And you should remove the link to the Globe Line website.

I do hope it’s not an expensive piece of Naim kit you have ordered.

Thanks HH how do I edit the message?

Done it now

Thanks Dan, i’ve been on eBay for 20+ years and I’m always careful. In this instance, there’s a fairly convoluted tale involving a DR upgrade, a repair and 2 services. I phoned Naim and they confirmed everything including dates. That’s the only reason I proceeded. As you and HH suggest, I’ll just sit tight and see what happens.

So it is the classic tale of audiophile upgrade delivery anxiety combined with low rated reseller? Sounds like double the fun…

I can finally send back the faulty Cisco 2960, and then it is just waiting for the money to get back in my pocket, where it will burn and envision all the upgrade possibilities it might support me with…

Just as a heads up all, this did turn out to be a scam. I got my money back but I have also been contacted by others in a similar position via the eBay community regarding this company with similar stories.
