Complete novice tech question but I will be taking my MacBook to Spain next week, the only real reason is so my son can upload his GCSE results to his college application portal while we’re out there. Will I need a VPN? I guess my only concern is that being in a foreign country whether the college website will allow him to log on without one. Thanks
Unlikely.
Why not ask the college if they allow logins from non-uk addresses?
Which college? I can set my phone to Spain and try if the login portal appears or is blocked.
Just tried from Spain, no problem to get to the login page.
Lovely, thank you
It’s always wise to be running a VPN, but if there’s a problem, he can just disable it while logging on to their server.
There are quite a few sites that I have to do this for, myself. Many times, once I’m logged in to some of these sites, I can enable the VPN again and the site works fine.
I would use a VPN anywhere away from home
It would be extremely useful to have an understanding of when a VPN assumes more significance.
Similarly what actions are you likely to do away from home on tablet, laptop or even phone?
Agreed if you are doing banking transactions or anything which might compromise your ID it’s advisable to use a VPN.
