ND555 replacement or Statement class streamer?
They haven’t replaced the 500 and 552 since 2003, neither Statements since 2014.
I wonder if they will one day.
In that context a new top streamer is not likely to come, even if i would like also, as you.
FR, If I was looking at Naim & Focal’s line-ups, I think it makes sense to invest R&D resource in to products which have a broader appeal, than those just likely to replace existing 552/500 models. One can envisage the demand for the Divas and other active/streamer 'speakers from the Middle/Far East, although these 'speakers require lots of room to ‘work’ (per the reviews).
Several have remarked about potentially smaller active/streaming Focals (which might fit smaller listening spaces, as most of us have in relative terms). I wonder whether there’s a limit to how small the product packaging can be taken, as it’s my understanding the amp’s used are AB, so will generate some heat, as will the streaming modules et al.
I agree, Statements replacement or new 500 series would probably not sell well today. COVID, Ukraine, Iran, …bad context since 2021.
Agree, and this nearly killed Naim me thinks.
At least one year with massive loss.
If they don’t fill up the missing products in portefolie, and get going, we may be heading end of existence.![]()
Said it on the other thread, its hard times out there.
Cheap end is all sown up.
Middle ground is also getting very tough and you certainly need a product that shines above everything else in the same price bracket to do any good.
Hi end stuff is less effective as well off folk tend to have money whatever is going on, this seems to be a good market to be in, but would people buy naim, or see naim as hi end? Tough one to try and mussel in to i think, and again you woukd need something that complete put the rest to shame and thats not easy to do these days.
So its probably tough knowing what to step into. But as said i can see the new owners using naims experience in building amplifiers, and using that in their top end builds.
I was just reading about the Accuvoice stream 3 - they have packed a lot of tech in a small package! No idea how they sound in comparison to a Naim set up but interesting to see how this type of product develops and if Naim / focal can do a high end version in a small box!
I repeat this below from a post I made in the Best Looking Naim thread. It also applies to photoshop visualisations.
My own view is that using AI to create images of possible naim products is disrespectful to our hosts and in particular the designers who work for the company.
When a previous thread started to get infected with generated images it rapidly went into an AI slop show, which I believe very few, if anyone, really want to view here.
AI doing design proposals is
Same for music and everything creative. It just sucks.
The irony being, of course, that both Naim and Focal will be heavily utilising AI in any future design work ![]()
I think in reality that substantial R&D investment in separates is unlikely to deliver an acceptable ROI these days. My own view is that the future for the company/ companies is in two areas; high-end integrated streaming amplifiers, and wireless network-capable speakers.
Forum rules can be read in the FAQ. Regarding AI, it says the following;
AI use on the forum: We would ask that members try to limit their use of AI in their posts on the forum. Any post that uses AI generated or AI assisted content or text MUST mention the AI Tool used and MUST NOT be presented as fact without verification. Any information that is manifestly false or misleading may be removed.
Please do not post AI generated images on the forum (some leeway here may be given within Moderators discretion on Best Jokes thread). Any AI image featuring the Naim/Focal brand, products or logo is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, deepfakes or visuals that may imitate official communication are prohibited.
@Jamiewednesday is the image in your post real or AI generated?
If the private equity hypothesis were the case, they’ve done it very bad. It would have been much more effective by laying off production personnel, move production to Asia, get higher volumes for a slightly lower price and also offer the Naim brand in license to others.
But they choose differently.
Ah, actually initially created through GPT, was unawares…Unbranded though. All that other stuff mentioned passed me by.
Am I able to post something similar if I put it together myself?
In this context I disagree with your first para in italics.
That said i was unaware of the forum rule noted by Richard above, as I have ignored much of the content referred to from other threads when it gets boring.
Don’t forget the eject button. ![]()
I prefer the minimalist double poke on the stop button…![]()
The future is modular.
If components become obsolete design a new module. No need to scrap a complete unit, like what happened to the SN3.
Technology moves on, design a new module.
Is that why I can’t get the discs out of my Yamaha DVD player. ![]()
Double poke.
Minimalist would be one poke, or no poke.
