Maybe that’s more about expectation management than it is about the WiiM?
The wiim is perfectly fine especially for its price. The features it has alone are huge, and run it through a mojo2, then you really have something very good for little money.

I use a Pro Plus in my TV setup, into the Dac in my N-172XS preamp.
At the price its fine, I even got it second hand boxed as new, as I understand Pro and Pro Plus, Dac only is different - same streaming platform.
If possible there’s a better streaming device in this Wiim price range - without Dac, I’d be interested to know.
I use it for internet radio and the occasional explore new music to possible buy.
The ND5XS in main setup do certainly sound better, as it should.
They all have dac’s, all be it different one’s. The best one is in the ultra amp.
But using the digital out into say a chord dac like the mojo 2 or qutest is a great match. Very good for the price.
I don’t tend to like the ESS sabre dac chips much in anything that has them, be it cheap or expensive, so bypassing it for me is a great way to keep all the great features the wiim ultra has.
Obviously not, but that isn’t the point.
It’s the point in this thread and in this forum. The goal is to achieve great sound quality, musical and involving, not to buy a shiny box with plenty of features, even if it costs much less.

The thread drifted, as threads are prone to do. I don’t think anyone is suggesting that the WiiM Amp Ultra is equivalent to any Naim alternatives. I’m certainly not.

Ha ha, true be known, I loved the s600 never herd the 800 but I’m sure they will be very excellent, was the S400 that to me were very boring and lifeless plus the fact they had fragile drivers. Hat off to s600 and above

Similar story here, only heard the S600s when first came out; fell instantly in love, but couldn’t afford them, so stuck with Keilidhs until I could. Bought mine last year with spare pair of BMRs…just in case! Always felt that the Focal relationship was the death knell for Naim speakers, so ‘hope overleaps itself’ that the speaker dept might come out of hibernation, like a prized triptych emerging from its Reformation-dodging priest-hole.

I have a DR-3 that needs testing to see if has no issues, just looking for a cassette to try it!
I need a S1 with 4 or more balanced inputs. Once upon a time, I was dreading an upate, but now I realise that the Statement is a perfect match for the Focal for playing LPs. Please consider.
PS : make the second set of outputs balanced as well.
