Does the thrill of Equipment Acquisition Ever Leave?

It’s called an addiction, right? The material I currently have fully satisfies me, I no longer seek to want better, I enjoy it and listen to music with pleasure… but I admit that it’s the financial means that limit me, if I had more resources I would certainly crack!

I also think that if you think of having better, it’s because your system doesn’t give you enough emotions, and in the end you are not satisfied…

Mine is curiosity.

I got to the point where I was satisfied with my system many years ago.

Surely you should also have multiple speakers, maximising the permutations…

Try doing things like cleaning all the contacts with a good contact cleaner, trying different tweaks , isolation feet etc. Or just shut it all off and watch TV..

I would consider myself endlessly curious. It has never yet resulted in a single purchase.

No. I was overjoyed with my Atom and couldn’t imagine anything sounding better. Just traded it for the ND5XS2:neutral_face:. I hate this forum and all of its great advice

That’s true in the West End (non-hifi) store I work in. A lot of people just buy stuff to buy it. Quite a few never collect - especially markdown items, but other £££ stuff too.

@AndyKH i started out with an ND5XS2 with my SN3. Great combo. I moved to an NDX2 and then a 333. If finances were an issue, I could have easily stayed with the ND5XS2. Enjoy

@frenchrooster Hope you are doing well. Ordered an Apheta 3 for my P9. Moving from an Exact. The last bit of system upgrades.

Not in my case, neither others. But it may of course be a case for some.

You just want better still, nothing wrong with that. For example I have an Nds with 2 ps, and it sounds amazing. But I know the Nd555 can give me more. So one day i will upgrade over my Nds. It’s a part of this hobby.

Yes, I was aware. Hope you will like it.

I am an expert in this subject. I have done so many upgrades over the last 8 years or so.

Is it an addiction? Is it just the thrill? Or is it purposely building your dreams with what you want?

Possibly all 3.

I have been through a whole host of upgrades. Many have followed my journey from Nait 5Si and CD5Si to full 500DR system.

At times I have sacrificed everything else and whacked loads on credit cards to fulfil my HiFi dreams.

Everything is paid for now and I would honestly say that my HiFi system has been my salvation in desperate emotional times with massive health issues and testing personal times.

The system has been my solace. I am an addict: Yes!

However, I have always wanted a full 500DR system and I always attain my goals no matter what! I did it guys.

I live my dreams. And get what I want!

Best wishes all!

I am absolutely tanking my system right now with Russian Techno. Giving the new neighbours a taste of things to come! We are link detached by garages.

System sounds massive with 2 x Rel S 812s with upto 800 watts power each. They aren’t on low volume either!

I say do what pleases you. I was given 18 months to live 2 years ago. I am here and noone can stop me

I think you have failed so far. I predict future upgrades from the Nait50, a ND555 and numerous rounds of cable changes.

I am bigger and stronger as a result of my health battles. I never ever gave up. And I remember my brother telling me to sell my system when things were financially hard.

F##k that. I bought more and more kit and paid everything off.

I ignored everyone’s advice. Did my own thing. If you want something get it! Life is too short.

I am listening to my system right now and loving the way it makes me feel: Invincible!

Maybe my system has conquered my cancer! Put it on the NHS. Any audiophile with Cancer to get a full 500DR system!

The Nait 50 is an interim box for BB. He will be back with a bigger system one day. But that is his choice and I get the impression he needed to start from scratch again.

This is interesting. Maybe look at other brands BB.

So glad you are in remission or cured. I no longer carry credit card balances. I immediately pay what I have charged. When I was younger, I got into credit card debt over stereo. Very hard to get out of. Never again. Now, I don’t purchase what I cannot pay for.
