Hi everyone. I recently bought Dynaudio Evoke 50 speakers and want to pair them with a simple all in one amp system. Is the Uniti Star a good choice?
Welcome to the Forum. I suspect the Evokes would benefit from a bit more than a Star. If the CD player isn’t a deal breaker, the Nova would be better. You really need to try the pairing at home to be sure.
I have the Excite X44 which is similar in size and driver complement though 2db more efficient. The Atom was incapable of driving them to realistic volume without showing signs of stress, the Nova is dramatically better, not giving out at any volume I can stand in my 8m x 5m room.
I have Evoke 50, used to have a Nait XS which was ok, moved onto a Supernait 3 and they are much happier, so I’d say a Nova over a Star.
I never play at really high volume. Is the Star sufficient then?
It’s not just about volume. An underpowered amplifier makes speakers sound weedy and gutless.
As above. A better power amp gives more control, not just needed at high volumes.

I went from Evoke 50 with Supernait 3 to NSC222/250.
The Supernait 3 did a good job, even in the big room I had at the time. The 222/250 does much better, as it should! My understanding is that they have low to average sensitivity and a fairly low impedance. Having more power and current seemed to improve the system’s low-volume performance just as much as when it is turned up loud.
Bad-for-bank-account solution. The Star is 70 Watts, the Nova 80 Watts. Not such a big difference, I would think.
It’s enough power . . And at 60-70 db , the dyns will sing well
.. However of cos, dynaudio benefits from more power .
I had a similar issue with my Star and SCM11s, which recommend minimum 70 w, but given time they’re getting on well together.
Decided to buy the Star. Listened to a lot of music. Played the new Rosalia album. Sounded great. Also The new Soulwax track Gimme a Reason, very demanding electronic music. Both streamed on Qobuz, lossless of course. Volume 50. No signs of a struggling amp. Very happy with it.
