End of my tether

Sorry Mike, I don’t remember whether you sent it to Class A or Naim. If it’s Class A, Darran turns things round very quickly, a few days. If it’s him I’d get on the phone next week. It may have got lost in the post or something.

Now that’s what I call encouragement !!!

But I do agree, a quick phone call would seem to be appropriate. However, if the Nait 5 is on song, I wouldn’t be too concerned, you might even be able to “slum it” for a year or two :sunglasses:

Let’s hope all is well and things get sorted soon.

It went, to the best of my knowledge, from my dealer to Class A. Already had one conversation a week last Friday but, yes, after an actual month I’m beginning to think there’s something (else) amiss.

Had a call today. The 202 is back. Most likely collect next weekend and drop off the loaned Nait 5, which has been an absolute pleasure, as well as my XPS2 and associated Burndy. Something not quite right there.

Brilliant news Mike.

Fingers crossed that it brings back that pleasure you used to enjoy.

And let’s hope the XPS2 and Burndy come back more quickly and enhance the pleasure even more.

Cheers
Don

Cheers yerself sir.

Some of the pleasure has returned with the loan of the Nait 5. When it came on song this past week it’s been a good reminder of what a working Naim system should do.

Would you consider retaining the Nait 5 and discarding the 202 ?

Absolutely not. Severely under-powered for my speakers. I’m well aware that a working 202/200/HCDR2 and NAPSC offers an awful lot more.

One of the interesting aspects of the past few weeks is that, having originally assumed all my woes commenced from accidentally knocking the speaker cable, I have since seen scant evidence that speaker cable position/dressing makes any difference at all (at least with a Nait 5 in the system).

My A5 has been touching the walls; strewn across the carpet (it still is); crossing over fireplaces, shelving and other cables. As soon as the Nait 5 came on song none of the above made any difference.

Nevertheless, having established that 5m worth in my living space is hard to dress I’ve no doubt that when the 202 comes back I’ll have to get some cable ties and do the windy thing so ably demonstrated by @Thomas just to get the stuff out of the way and largely not amongst the other cables.

I thought the Zu speakers were pretty efficient. Perhaps synergy wise they are a better match with the Nait than the 202/200 combination ?

I tend to think like you. But I am curious to discover how the OP will find the 202/ 200 when back, on these speakers vs the nait.

If everything works as it has in the past then frankly the combination will blow the Nait away.

Collecting the 202 Thursday morning. Taking the XPS2 and Burndy down with me as one of them doesn’t sound right. Got some speaker cable dressing to be done.

Sounds positive.

What will be the temporary setup when you get started on Friday ?

Bare CDX2, 202, 200, HCDR, NAPSC.

Looking forward to your feedback post-Thursday 202 re-installation.

Hope all goes well. :crossed_fingers:

Thank you. Based on previous experience it should be possible to be able to tell if things have improved fairer instantly but as the 200, NAPSC, HCDR (and XPS2) have been off for weeks I’m happy to give it three weeks or so before coming up with a definitive judgement.

In the meantime my dealer will have had a chance to rule out further issues with the XPS2 and/or Burndy. Got my suspicions on the latter. Would be very surprised if a recapped XPS2 threw up further issues but we’ll see.

I will miss the Nait 5. It’s such a simple pleasure to be able to nor have to constantly be aware of thoughts like “oh that sounds wrong”. Indeed only last night I was watching TV when my mind wandered and I found myself thinking “well it’s not a 200/202 but goodness that just sounds “right””.

There is a lot to be said for simplicity over complexity - provided it sounds right and does the job right

Might be worth keeping this Nait 5 in mind as a fall-back option, just in case. Hopefully not necessary, just for peace of mind.

It’s not really powerful enough for my speakers but it has piqued my interest in maybe quietly acquiring a small olive or chrome system somewhere else in the house.
