I think it was mainly to check that the gear hadn’t been damaged in transit, which seems fair enough given their weight, and the way some couriers chuck things around.
Often the shipping label tells you when it was shipped to the dealer. So if you want the latest production you maybe able to verify and go from there with your dealer.

Any sign of the NAC202?
I thought they had to at least plug it in and make sure it works.
Wow. Turn your back for a second. Sorry folks. Busy week at work and with gigs (Michael Head and The Red Elastic Band at Gorilla in Manchester last night).
Anyways, as regards boxes my previous dealer would always turn up with the box unopened but then do the installation so we were both satisfied. Current dealer has to travel 40 miles each way so would understandably want to open up before coming to install or would leave me to do so.
My understanding was that my dealer would ring me when the 202 comes in. I’ve not had a chance to follow up but my assumption is that it’s not back as yet. Even class A must have holiday backlogs to some extent.
Ditto. I’ve always been the one who opened the boxes first (on new gear). It’s half the fun but then I’m fine with setting it up myself too. Once it’s all settled down, I’ll probably ask them to pop round for a listen if they’re ever close by just for them as they were keen to install it anyway!
Certainly in years gone by Naim expected the dealer to open and check the unit out prior to the visit to the customer to install the item.
A long time ago I collected a chrome bumper Hi-Cap for myself directly from Naim. It was ordered at my dealer and I happened to be working in Salisbury at the time. My dealer was very insistent that I didn’t tell Naim that I was taking the product home and installing myself as it was expected that the dealer did the final QC before installing the item.
I’ve never had my local dealer even offer to install anything for me! Tbh if they did I’d probably politely decline as I’m pretty confident that, with the support of the wealth of knowledge here, I’d do a better and more detailed job than they would. I recall vividly asking my local dealer about options for Fraim and it was as if the guy had never heard of it…
My dealer has always installed my stuff. I expect him to as I see him as the expert in the relationship. Been happy with this arrangement for over three decades. I don’t really ask for discounts but do ask for superlative service. It works for me anyway.
Same here, I trust my dealer to provide me with the best price which I believe he has. He’s always delivered and installed. I now live over an hour away and he still insists on delivering and installing everything. If I’m not happy with an item (within a reasonable time of course) he allows to return/exchange no questions or financial penalty. That might explain “open” boxes.
It’s been that way since ‘94 if only I got the same service from others.
This is why my dealer gets my repeat business to.
All the above comments reinforce my response to those who felt I needed a dealer closer than 40 miles away. Yes I do in theory but we all have different expectations and experiences. I like my dealer as a dealer and as a person. I also like the people he employs. That all counts hugely.
I checked in on Friday and was advised that they’d not had the email invoice and list of work done on my 202 so the assumption is that there’s a backlog.
In the meantime, belt and braces approach. I’d appreciate an opinion on this.
Bearing mind my amp is a 202 and the Superfly are 16ohm. So, which of these three loading resistors?
I noticed the link you provided has been deleted, no doubt in accordance with forum rules.
However, I did have a quick look last night and saw prices in dollars for three resistors 5, 10 and 25 ohms each at about 10 dollars apiece.
If you don’t get any good advice here, it might be worth getting one of each and simply use whichever sounds best. The wasted 20 dollars might be worth it ?
Sorry I can’t help, and despite the forum rules, it does seem to be a shame there isn’t a little bit of flexibility.
I removed the link in accordance with forum rules. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to replace with anything meaningful (which is what i usually try to do in such situations). A title, description or a picture is fine, just no live links in the Hifi Corner, thanks.
Rega did a variant, in the days when the Rega3 was flying out the doors, Rega expected the dealer to check the deck. When it was clear that this wasn’t happening they made some decks in vivid lime green instead of black. So the customer opening the deck expecting a black deck got…
A shock to some customers no doubt…
Please accept my public apology for that @Richard.Dane. It had completely slipped my mind.
I may well spend the money as you suggest @Don but I’d welcome thoughts from anyone on what ought to be the best match up.
I’ve a vague recall of my dealer trying something similar not long after installing the speakers but I couldn’t tell you the value. However, I don’t recall being especially impressed with the outcome.
I will also of course be emailing Sean at Zu who has never been anything less than hugely helpful.
Almost frightened to ask …
… any update ?
I am curious too. The 202 should be back now, not ?
Too busy listening to wonderful music again?
No 202 as yet. I am beginning to be concerned. In the meantime the Nait 5 went through a slump and is now totally on song. So, yes, a fair bit of music.
