Good to read that you enjoy your system now, even more. A long journey which had paid off. And all for Christmas time, which is even better.
Well Mike, it’s been a long, hard year for you ! I’m so glad it seems to have come together at last and that you and your family are able to enjoy your music again.
It’s a real bonus that the sparkle you said had seemingly evaporated over the years from your system has returned and then some !!
And it’s great that your Amplifier and speakers are able to preform even better than you had previously imagined.
Well done. Enjoy.
Don
Perhaps this thread can be closed now that some sort of conclusion has been reached? It’s been a long haul!
To be on the safe side… we should leave it running till he’s ripped all his cds
I propose one post by cd ripped
Let’s not be too hasty.
Just kidding personally. Nothing against the OP. I hope Mike will not take badly my humor.
Haha, not at all. Nearly got the first ten percent done. I’ll write them up retrospectively if you want
So, serious question. I’ve no room in my living room for CDs and the move to steaming will enable me to move them out.
I’m still going to buy CDs; rip as FLAC; backup to USB drive and have the CDs as a further backup in the garage. The question is… stored in what?
Anyone else gone this route and found some accessible storage options?
Good suggestions for 2TB USB powered hard drives for use as a backup also welcome.
Depends on the condition of your garage, I store guitar boxes in the garage but not hifi boxes as not heated and gets a bit damp, CD booklets may suffer. I gave my collection to my son, only condition he kept it intact. Loft would be better maybe.
Yeah mines not heated. Doesn’t get damp but can be really cold. Loft isn’t an option really. Already full.
I bought a number of CD flight cases - the sort of things DJ’s would have used. No more than 200 CD’s per box as they’re too heavy otherwise.
I have a store room just off my listening room. Storing in the loft is an option but, CD’s are VERY heavy, so beware if you’re placing all 1600 odd in one spot in the loft… Better to spread the load over a larger area if possible. Also, beware of the potential heat in a loft during summer months.
Just been looking at those on Amazon. Expensive but they do look a possible solution in terms of things being free of damp on the garage. Noted.
Ideally, storing in shelves or boxes in the house, or a dry garage, would be the way to go. Is de-cluttering the house an option to create a space. I’ve just decluttered our garage and storage room, it took a few months and became a bit of a project, but it’s great to have it done.
Lived in a flat for 8 years so, whilst we inevitably expanded when we moved to a house, we’re a family that’s ruthless in disposing of stuff we don’t need. Garage gets a declutter every year although this year has been a struggle.
I have to say the flight cases look a sensible option but an expensive one. I’m also considering simply having two back up drives and disposing of the CDs completely bar those with booklets worthy of retention. It seems drastic but at the moment it’s on the table.
From what I read here, in the strictest sense of the law, we are required to retain our CDs to show that we own the music. Hopefully the judge will go easy on you
CDs don’t take up much space and are the ultimate backup. I suppose I could find most of the music online these days, but they’re kept for sentimental reasons too. I can get about 200 CDs into a box and just keep them stacked in the corner of a spare bedroom.
Mine were in the loft although I’ve just brought a load down to play
