English Electric 8 (again, sorry...)

If so, why are you using expensive power-strips and cables for your amplification… and why are you using an expensive speaker cable for your speaker? is it something wrong with your amp or speakers?

These belong to the analog domain, so they have nothing to do with the audiophile switches and usb re-clockers, and it is obvious that they can impact your music reproduction.

So if they are of concern to you, I would suggest that you create a new thread.

As for the audiophile switch / usb re-clocker discussions - these have been flogged to death in other threads and other forums, and they are always ended with heated comments, so I think there is no point of creating heat here.

My subjective point of view is that:

  1. A network switch is designed to do based on the protocol for the network. If it does some black magic, Netflix would be selling high quality video networking equipment. However, a bad PS of the switch could have some impacts on the electric noises, which in turn might cause some issues in the analog reproduction stage of the DAC.
  2. As for the USB re-clocker, I just quote what was said by the HQPlayer developer:

Since the USB clock is not used for audio. And master clock responsible for clocking audio is owned by the DAC, I don’t see any benefit in reclocking USB (or Ethernet for that matter either). These clocks have no relation to audio clocks, they just facilitate data transfer between two RAM buffers.

Then don’t bother, exercise your rights and move on, nothing for you here

Yes, I agree, there is nothing more for me say.

But do you have something else to say rather than antagonizing an individual needlessly?

No antagonisation intended, simply stating the obvious and curtailing the endless stream of “oh yes it does”/“oh no it doesn’t” posts that will follow. Pantomime season draws to a close.

OK, makes sense! Thanks.

Do you have any more sensible word to express than the insulting, deeply disrespectful word “troll”?

Accurate though

OK this one I can follow, your point was not very clear with the Chinese switch

Disagreeing that there are magical network devices does not make one a troll, though I agree that the thing with the Chinese switch was confusing

The same largely applies to switches (although not as completely), however a quieter PSU for the switch will most likely be beneficial.
(But a different power cable to the switch? It’s very hard to believe that’s not something like expectation bias.)

I don’t believe anyone (myself included  , except jim*** & day*** of course ) here is trolling. Some of my comments here are meant to be provocative, which require some lateral thinking, but unfortunately are “lost in translation”

People are claiming they can hear SQ improvements from using audiophile switches because of some black magic performed in noise reduction or jitter reduction, but in fact the key here is a good-engineered PSU.

PS: This engineering trick / trade secret (maybe not as Julian and others already knew it) has been accidentally / unknowingly discovered by the OP from his journey from Netgear, to EE8 and back, and finally InnuOS PhoenexNet, although he does not explicitly state it.

That’s it from me and I am out of here.

Yes, agreed

Silent Angel Forester linear power supply arrived for my EE 8switch (which is made for the Bonn N8 by Silent Angel, which is more or less the 8 switch without the metal case). Wow, no burn-in needed, the uplift in sound is very tangible - this is a keeper. Streaming Qobuz and Tidal is finally where I want it to be. Feeling happy

What changes did you get when adding Silent Angel Forester to EE8?

Literally EVERYTHING sonically is better - resolution, dynamics, soundstage, everything sounds ‘less digital’. Now yes this is subjective but I have heard so many folks with audio grade network switches say that good power supplies have improved them that I am pretty confident I am not delusional about this or just the subject of placebo. YMMV of course, but if you can find a dealer who is willing to take a return if you don’t like it, I would absolutely recommend having a demo of this power supply. My holy grail was getting Qobuz and Tidal to sound as good as local playback from the internal storage on my Innuos Zen Mark 3 and I can now say it finally is.

You’re not delusional @Moonglum - although part of this forum likes you to believe that.
