English Premier League Season 2023/24

I thought that might be the case as Europe appears to have completely drained them. Good to see they are obeying the rules as it will be interesting to see what will happen to one or two other clubs after the Everton ten pointer!

There’s a certain anount of intentional spin around this. Don’t believe that Newcastle are simplistically taking some kind of higher ground here. What’s actually going on is a mix of stuff you choose to see and stuff you choose to not see.

So, from pre-takeover there has been lots of intentional noise around the need to comply with FFP. Some of that was to get the deal through and some of that to temper expectations around being one of the so-called richest clubs in the world. Eminently sensible but really about skirting around the issues other clubs have had when being purchased by nation states intent on sports-washing.

Subsequently it’s been all about publicly making the right noises whilst knowing that you’re busy building your revenue base. Again, fantastically sensible. The sort of thing my club have been doing on a much smaller scale. Grow the international brand; expand merchandising, streaming and so on.

In the background though which club has voted for every change which would give them a better FFP deal? Which club voted against changes which would ban them from being sponsored by companies they have part-ownership in? Hardly alone in this. I’m just saying that there’s no basis for suggesting their behaviour is somehow better than other clubs.

Next thing you can expect are the good news stories about the Newcastle United Women’s team. All part of expenditure excluded from FPP rules.

Nice to see another long term academy player make his debut against Palace. Great things are expected of Alfie Gilchrist and I see a video of his debut has gone viral, just for doing what a defender is supposed to do!

Yeh, but Jamie, it’s quite a rare phenomenon at the Bridge these days.
Chelsea fans must have been bemuzzed …

Not a good night for the North London clubs.

I was hugely impressed by Brighton’s attacking flair, particularly given the number of players out injured, including the tricky Mitoma. Still not sure about Spurs’ persistence in playing such a high line but, boy, it produced a highly entertaining game.

Not such an entertaining game at the Emirates but credit to the Hammers for the defensive discipline and resilience they showed throughout. The Gunners never really found the key. Moyes will surely be very pleased, as will @TheKevster.

A most fun game tonight. Two teams - both intent on passing it around the back to draw people in - were always going to generate some action. And palpitations!

4 -2 was a fairer scoreline than 4 nil. Spurs keeper kept them in it in the first half. But, if Richarlason had his shooting boots on, it could have been different. Think Spurs were missing Bissouma, as kept getting overrun in midfield.

For us, despite missing 10 players!, the energy levels were back up. Shows the difference that the midweek Europa games make.

It was a defensive masterclass from The Moyesiah’s boys Mike.

Arse were blunt and ineffective (Jesus and Saka’s diving and cheating were a sign of their desperation) and although West Ham only had a couple of chances, they took them ruthlessly. And they played as a team – everyone played their role, and thus it’s difficult to single out a MotM, although Ogbonna and Alvarez really stood out in a group of standouts.

Only downside was the missed penalty. But Henry’s salty tears made up for that.

I’ll suffer the loss, seeing that Kev’s lot put a smile on the faces of 99% of all fans…

Well done to the hammers a striker in January I think.

Nah, they do it every game.
Embarrassing cheats.
As Keano keeps reminding us.

P.s. Congrat.s Kev  :+1:

Should have given it to JW-P. But he did get an assist. Sis & I were chatting at St.M. on Boxing Day; we are both really pleased that he’s doing well for you.

So am I, SW! I’m still bewildered that nobody else tried to sign him, he’d be an asset to ANY team.

Are there any Crystal Palace supporters here on the forum? I like this ā€œsmallā€ team

South London and Proud! Yes - I’m a season ticket holder at Palace. We have some very good players but are definitely having a poor run at the moment. If we don’t beat Brentford on Saturday I expect a taxi will be ordered for Mr Hodgson and a replacement manager brought in. Although I’m worried that Steve Cooper is simply a younger variant of Roy

But, but, but, you told me that Jesus was the greatest thing since sliced bread

Even Richie, who you infer as rubbish, has scored more Premier League goals this season…

Arsenal have been well and truly mugged by Guardiola. He’s managed to offload many of his rejects and bolster funds for buying better players, at the expense of the hapless Arteta, who has no idea what he’s doing.

Poor Deckers :face_vomiting:

Same old arsenal always cheating. I thought the same against Liverpool. Saka is a full blown cheat.

Yep, SAKA IS A CHEAT.
Horrid club.

It goes way back to 2019 when he started to get a ā€˜reputation’ - loads of teams have suffered - Sheff. Utd., Southampton, Vilarreal, Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham et al

It’s time for the Premier League top nobs to act.

Do you know if and when CPFC will get a new arena? I’ve never had the opportunity to watch a match live in London at Selhurst Park.

They won’t get a new stadium - they are going to develop the current one. Steve Parish wants to build a new stand and now has planning permission. Unfortunately the cost has risen from the original plan of Ā£100m to Ā£150m due to COVID/inflation etc. This means less money to spend on players but if he doesn’t increase capacity that limits revenue so he is in a bit of a difficult position really
