Or Dan might consider adding a pair of these
After more listening to the music last night and also popping the hemingway and omega back in as well.
I began to see a pattern forming, the omega and music are very similar in my system, both have the same sound signature, with the music having a slightly better or more pronounced midrange, especially nice on vocals. But i would say that the rest is very similar.
So slightly different to my first thoughts.
He hemingway still sounds slightly more frisky than the other two in my system, but i am beginning to feel the other 2 might actually be more natural sounding.
But whatever, i feel you canāt go far wrong with any of them at this level, and you can change your mind on them every day, due to mood or what you are playing.
Well different day and more music. Two things to report.
One i need a new switch. Not the phoenixnet but my cisco. I have an old blue one doing the main job under the stairs. Well over the last few months, we have had the trip go on the main ring in the house. Each time it has reset ok, but some time last night it went again, anyway i have found it is the cisco, so obviously need to replace it with something else, it has stopped working completely and just trips straight away if you turn it on.
So not sure what to replace it with, another cisco or ???
Back to the music and cableās.
The more i listen to these then the more i am liking what the music and omega do. The hemingway was my favourite, but since having the chord music here itās highlighted that maybe the hemingway is actually a bit false in what itās doing? As it does have a tendency to be as i said slightly more alive and frisky top end to it, this does grab you more than the other two, but also it can be slightly too much on some tracks, whereas i havenāt felt that as yet with the omega or music.
As i have said they are all very good, and you could easily choose one or the other, and then change the next day, or different music. But for the long run i am beginning to feel itās actually either the music or omega. Probably change again later lol.
Right now i need to do some thinking about a new main switch for the house.
Cheers dunc
Many thanks for your thoughts on all this.
I have a silly question for a change: how heavy are the filter ābulbsā on the Omega? Do they place any strain on the switch sockets?
They certainly pull the cable down. I had the omega cable resting on some old screws i put in the wall from my naim days, and then had pipe lagging on them as well, this works well with this cable.
I actually run the other ethernet cable in the same way as it keeps them away from all the mains cables below.
As for putting strain on the sockets, then i guess it must do as the cable is certainly heavier than a normal cable, but i doubt it would damage them, but still better to support it probably.
Even worse for me as I use an EE8 switch. However, a nice rubber ice hockey puck now sits on top of the switch to stop things moving around.
Got another cisco in and working. Cost nothing, so bonus.
This is also a blue one like my old one, or i can have a white one, thatās newer for Ā£40.
I took the blue one, did i do right ? As i can go get the white one still??
I had a white one and a blue one, the white was better sounding.
Model 8tcl
But maybe the blue one was tired. The white looked as new.
UPDATE
i would like to say after further listening that my statement about the omega being laid back is not what i feel now.
I would rather say thatās itās a more natural sounding cable that slightly leans to the warmer sound, this can give the impression off being slightly laid back, especially when comparing to a cable thatās in the opposite direction.
As said with much more listening then my opinions have moved,
Cheers dunc
I might get the white one as well and just try, after all itās only Ā£40.
Should have taken a picture of it to see what model it was.
But the blue one is working fine and is the same as my last one, i think the whote one uses a plug in voltage wall mark think, but my blue one has 240 plug on it.
@Simon-in-Suffolk is the guy here. He knows all the differences between Cisco models.
If I am not wrong, the white models are more recent.
My two 8tcl had power plugs, then later got a third one , a blue one, with an external 48 v SMPS, which was said to sound better. I didnāt noticed.
All three are sold since some years now.
Was going to just get a ee8 or bonn 8 (same thing) or something similar to do the main switching, but this was available for free.
Obviously i still can, especially if it will bring any SQ benefits, as the last blue cisco has been in for years (7 or more, and it wasnāt new then, cost Ā£30) so didnāt do bad really.
But it needs to be 8 portās min as i use them all up
Guyās reading this, you arenāt making it any easier for me by keep offering me cables for sale by pm on different forums.
I donāt wish to try loads and loads or buy loads thanks.
I have 3 here right now and that is enough, plus i think i know where my money is going.
Yep, and they, 2960s, have all been replaced with 9200 series products now
S
The 8 port costs 1400 euros. Maybe better buy the 2960 while for 50 euros.
I will probably just stay with this one for now, as it was fine before.
Similar experience with my diamond vs sigma. Diamond has more punch but is slightly false. Some tracks were wow - some were not so good.
With sigma all is very natural and involving without being overall pushy or laid back.
Yes they do - put strain on the sockets. I have āmountedā the cable on the wall at nd555 end. Bad - but not possible other way ā¦.
On PN end it is no problem as the sockets are very tight
Iāve put a piece of foam under my Omega at the NDS socket end plus had to blutack the EE to its table so it stays put at the switch end.
Just for info; Furutech does offer their NCF cable elevator for this very purpose.
