Hey Nigel, the CatSnake 6a ain’t half bad at all. It makes more sense now i have a NDX 2 as source. There is a really nice sweet treble quality about it and the bass, oh the bass. It hit the chest with an iron fist. LOL
P.S From what i’m hearing in my system (with headphones on) the BJC 6a has a slightly more forward midrange quality, quieter backgrounds and is smoother. The CatSnake seems more overall enjoyable than the BJC 6a, in terms of greater micro dynamics, treble is very sweet indeed, it almost has me licking my lips. Lovely. Bass is deeper too.
Yes, my attempt to buy from designacable was a bit of a farce. I ordered via paypal…then nothing happened, turns out i had a new updated credit card…which needed updating on paypal to work. In the mean time i decided on a further 555ps for the nd555. I will stick with Vodka for a while longer.
I have always liked the Vodka, regardless of what many here think of it, i find it injects excitement into my streaming experience. The CatSnake 6a does so as well mind but i’m yet to try the Vodka with my new NDX 2. All in good time.
I am curious to hear from you about Vodka vs Catsnake. My Catsnake is still running, but unfortunately i am still waiting for my pre to come back.
Try to connect back the Vodka for a couple of tracks, I am curious.
OK will do. I will need a little time as i’m burning in my new NDX 2 since yesterday. I have CatSnake 6a in as i type, just getting a good feel for it now. It’s quite good considering it’s cost. It may lose out on the bass side of things though. I dislike too much bass. Still it’s early doors yet. Thanks
I don’t understand how you can assess this at the same time as running in a new streamer. If you hear differences in the sound, how do you know whether it’s the cable or the streamer (or potentially even something else altogether) that’s causing them?
Simple answer to that Chris is i can’t. I have started off with my new streamer with that cable so i will just leave it in until i feel the NDX 2 has settled in and my ears/brain have adjusted to those two in sync together, then swap cables. It could be a while though…
Just wondering if anyone here has done the full CatSnake 6a loom? Has it made a good improvement other than just doing the final leg? I may go the whole hog. My jeans are wearing a bit tight now so am looking to stick the Cat suit on instead. I appreciate your views here. Seriously. Thanks.
I thought you were done with piddling about with wires? Could it be that you enjoy it more than just enjoying the music? I can’t believe there is is anything other than a very marginal difference between Blue Jeans and Cat Snake 6a. After a couple of days the difference will be forgotten. Why not buy a couple of new albums? That’s the point of this hifi lark after all.
I have installed a CatSnake 6a on the streamer and it really is a nice cable. It’s not too expensive either. One can fit a whole loom for less than half price of a Vodka. It’s mainly for synergistic reasons to be honest. So far i have done AQ, BJC and now DesignerCable. It will be my last go at things. I’m just finalising before i sell off the lot i no longer require. The AQ’s are definitely going so it’s now a choice between BJC & CatSnake. The thing i like about the CatSnake is it’s multi-strand and i think i prefer it. Just wondering if going the whole hog brings that little bit more?
The trouble is, it’s a £100 here and a £100 there and then £100 down the pan when you sell them for half price. The BJC is a good well made cable, and I’m sure the DesignaCable is too. But is one really better than the other? With modest speakers is it really, really possible to tell the difference definitively? Once one has run in you’ve forgotten what the old one was like. I’d spend the £100 on a few albums, stick with the BJC and forget cables. There is fine line between trying to get the best from the system and obsession. What will you do if you settle on the CatSnake only for someone to wax lyrical about the DogFrog next month? You can’t try them all. It’s not like Pokemon.
Well; they do sound different. Even on a modest system such as mine. I’d rather not buy any more but if it’s worth matching the rest (with a synergistic positive outcome then i will) or staying with a mixture of BJC & CatSnake instead?
I don’t doubt they sound different, but is one definitively better? If it was me I’d want all the wires the same. I just like it like that, it’s simple and just seems right.
I’ve got to a point where I simply don’t care if there is something better. There will always be something better. I’m glad I swapped from Vodka to BJC - to my ears the latter are certainly no worse and I thought at the time they were better - and the best thing is that I ended up with a few quid in the bank. But having BJC and being happy with them I certainly wouldn’t bother trying other modestly priced alternatives. I just can’t be bothered, but then I’m not a cable maniac.
