Ethernet cables - YOUR LISTENING Shooutout Summary

Yes it’s also here :+1:

I’m not intending to keep it all but since it’s still here I thought I might as well try it since there are a few preferring dual switches. I have tried it in the past with other cables and then I preferred my D2 switch only. My initial feeling now is that 1008 still is adding some mechanical feeling to both bass and highs and that I prefer Supra - D2 switch - Sigma.

A switch in between router and streamer is by most agreed on being an improvement. Anything from a 30USD switch and up. I have tried a bunch of them and still prefer Ansuz D2 powerswitch. Nuprime or EE8 is a good much cheaper alternative.

Start with netgear gs108 with a linear powersupply between router and switch and have a listen. From there on, may God have mercy with you wallet

Thanks. I wish I had consulted you guys earlier! I assumed (we all know how silly that is) that a dedicated cable would be best, like with power. I had to get a single cable from the router in my study to my listening room at the other end of the house, when I could have just added a switch from the existing system and got a better result! LOL. I had to drill from my study through to the garage, up through the ceiling into a cupboard, then from there up into the loft, along and down to my room! I was oh so pleased with the job I did (see pics). Oh well!

Audioquest Diamond between router and switch, which I prefer over the NEET-1008, better balance. Then Sigma v2 to streamer, think it was BD that first recommended this combination.

Provides a lot of attack and impact, combined with all the lovely Sigma texture. It might be too much, but definitely worth a listen if you can.

Other variations have been good quality (at least OFC copper) standard certified Cat5 through 8, nothing that stood out there.

My dealer has a pre-owned Ansuz X2 Ethernet cable, I might ask him for a loan as a comparison to the AQ as you have spoken highly of them, if you think it worthwhile?

Not sure if I understand your setup correctly. But your effort may be very useful. You could still add a switch before and ideally also after the long ethernet cable run. But more ideally, you could get two used Cisco2960 switches ( i have the CX version) with Fibreobtic ports ( should be able get used one for ca 100 £) add to those Finisar 1318 single mode SFPs and a sigle mode fibre cable. Total invest would be around 300£. You then just replace your long ethernet run with the fibreoptic cable. This could potentially give you a very substantial improvement. And than all you have to worry about during the coming years of your audiophile suffering is which ethernet cables sound best between router and switch and last switch and streamer

In terms of bass or money?

Changed to c-stream in place of supra between router and switch with 1008 after switch one and Sigma after switch 2. More relaxed presentation.

Have no experience of X2 Ethernet but have my eyes open for a 3-4m myself for first position. Try it!

Just implemented a 2m Ansuz A2 between last switch and Streamer and it reduced harshness in voices and made everything more relaxed and even. Allows to listen with less fatigue. Nice. The x2 is probably not too far away.

I get bit more high end definition with 1008 between Nuprime and Ansuz D2 switch. I believe this is mainly the 1008 effect and not the extra switch.

Have you tried 1008 all the way from router to switch?

Not sure I like the added top end even if it’s more with 1008. Metallic hard sound?

Might look into the Furtech lan Plus model between router and switch and see what happens. We talk minor adjustments now. But there is a difference in presentation even on the cable before the switch even though not as big as the final position.

Toslink can help by changing the noise profile to something more agreeable to the individual for sure, but unless powered by a battery supply still provides a path for common mode noise through the mains. I appreciate many report positive results, as have those using modified TP-Link adapters on battery supplies.

There was a recent article from Alpha relating to optical connections that’ll be worth a look too, there’s more depth on what effects it is susceptible to.

I also wanted to hear Sigma-X, however my run is 6m so not happening …

I’m back to supra - Ansuz D2 switch and Sigma. I find it most natural and relaxing to listen to. Sounds very good :+1:

If I listen to 1008 on its own I completely agree about the top end. However, with the 1008 running to the blue Cisco 2960 I have, the switch seems to completely neutralise this effect. I much preferred 1008 to BJC, Catsnake and C-Stream. It’s like the sum of the parts (1008+Cisco) are greater than the whole when used in this configuration. Maybe it’s the Cisco’s ground? Again, I’ve only got this effect with the small blue Cisco. I have two of the larger port grey 2960’s and they sound awful by comparison. They’re all second hand and old, so I suppose they could be faulty?

Two mates have gone blue Cisco+1008 after loaning them mine and they are very happy.

It was a looong time ago I had 2960 but from memory it was more muted/dull in comparison to EE8. Rolled off top end. Some might call it neutral and EE8 more upfront though. If so maybe 1008 which is full throttle matches the 2960 resulting in a more neutral presentation :man_shrugging: Just speculation.

It’s good to have combinations of cables and switches to try out. But for now I settle on D2 switch and Sigma into NSS 333 as sounding most musical in my place :+1:

2960 is cheap so might try it out in this setup when one shows up. It’s the blue one that one should get, not the white?

ha, that’s entirely your call - too much in terms of drive and attack.

@Emrah I’ve sent the request.

Don’t know if you’ve come across them, but Amphenol skewclear SF-SFPP2EPASS-003 DAC cables are very highly regarded as an alternative approach. Available from cablesondemand. Also for your consideration @MarkL3w

I have both and prefer the blue. The white is unused after trying to like it for a while.

Interesting. I have the white 2690CX version, took out its powersupply (although I think it is really good) and hooked up a high quality low noise powersupply. It sounds great. Only have Buffalo GS2016 to compare (below of the Cisco in the picture)

Great! More news to come

Did not hear about those before. Very interesting

This was my conclusion also, although IME EE16 Switch significantly pulls both their pants down.
