Hereās a theory, the cables donāt run in but the equipment either end adjustās to its character. Or maybe the cable settles into position and shape.
When I replaced vodka the designacable cat6a, I bought 3 and only placed one in the system. Sure enough over the next month the sound improved removing sharpness extending bass etc, I, then removed it and replaced it with an unused one that sat next to it for a month. The sounds was identical to the previous one, it no run in.
Have you directly compared a āburnt inā cable with a virgin one? If so, was that with controls to avoid bias, such as blind verification?
Peder has said that he did once, but didnāt come back and give any details.no-one else that Iāve read has indicated that theyāve done that - it would be interesting to have some experiences detailed. (Apologies to anyone who has posted such details that Iāve missed.)
If you ordered from Designacable, they will change the order if they can. Make sure you get Cat6a (you mentioned 6e, which I donāt think exists) and also get the floating shield (there is a dropdown menu for this on the Designacable ordering page).
You will be fine iām sure - You went for this one with the floating shield? which is effectively a Cat 5e anyway..Itās a good cable.
ā If left floating then this cable will not perform to Cat6a specifications, but will still function perfectly well as Cat5e, which is the most common type of specification in HiFi setupsā
Hi Stephen, youāre a bit off point, what DesignaCable mean is if the screen is left floating it will not perform to full Cat-6a spec but is still able to meet the 100BASE-T (Fast Ethernet) compliance, what it will actually do is an unknown but whatever the headroom is way more than needed for audio streaming.
Further NB on how unconnected (floating) screens perform.
BJC Cat-6a is always floating, they test each cable & send the test sheet with the cable & they all meet & exceed conformance to Cat-6a (500MHz)
My friend has two Shunyata ehternet/streaming-cables.
The one I wrote about aboveā¦
⢠Shunyata Alpha,.he has to his Switch.
And Shunyataās top-modelā¦
⢠Shunyata Sigma,.he has from his Switch to his Streamer.
Now everything is correctly described,.the order is restored .
This will now be even more interesting to listen to in the autumn.
That is not as crazy as it may seem.
There are certainly interactions with cables and equipment and I could not presume the āeffectsā are hermetically separated to be only located in the cables.
Not worth a big argument from me either way - what happens, happens, so just need to optimize it for best results.
Nonetheless there is something that āruns-inā - it is not (IMO) only in āimaginationā as other people here the same effects in the same way - and comment on the same character of effect.
I was someone who began not believing in 'run-inā effects - until I heard a few too many times the effects.
I wonāt be selling it. I have just put it in albeit with headphones on. Itās still the king in my system. Itās held the crown all along and it will be staying. The bass is in a completely different league. So is the resolution, second to none here in terms of excitement. With the Vodka in the system my jaw drops. My mind is well and truly made up. I reckon other people Vodkas must be broken, either that or their system is not optimum and the Vodka is revealing it. Iām done here with these debates. Happy Listening!
