Ethernet Switch and Cables Mania

The Cisco switch costs around 700 euros new. A powerline on it would not be excessive, specially if the switch is reactive to quality power and we know all the importance of the switch.

Okay AQ vodka folks still getting sibilance on this cable.

Good example would be any Carpenters song on this album. Seems it gives high pitch singers a whistle/lisp on my system. It’s had a fair amount of use so far in tv and in the NDX2, there’s positives about the cable but can’t live with the high pitched Ssss and Ssssh’s, I’m 100% certain the artist doesn’t want to hear it like that. Maybe I have a faulty cable, or maybe doesn’t suit my system - which seems strange. But don’t get that with any other cables I’ve used…

Can any AQ give it a listen a see if it’s a trait of the cable. Also get slightly hissy trumpets/hi hats. Can’t be a good thing. I’d like to think the amount I paid for my system this wouldn’t be an issue

How many hours it is running?

Reading recent posts on here, I too agree that the system context is important when passing judgement on a streaming cable and switch come to that.

Although DB’s system is way more capable than mine, there are similarities which could partially account for our shared appreciation of the Vodka. Those similarities being use of a full SL loom, a combination of Vodka connected to the streamer with another cheaper streaming cable upstream (in my case Cinnamon) which has the effect of calming the more exuberant traits of the Vodka. I too have never really got on with Chord’s posh analogue cables (I have tried and rejected Chord Sarum TA interconnect in the past).

Similarly DB points out differences to MichaelB’s system, which might partially account for a difference of opinion on the Vodka, namely a rejection of SL, an appreciation of posh Chord analogue cables and a liking for different music genres, if I understood correctly.

The choice between SL and Chord could be down to system, personal preference for a certain sonic signature and musical genres preferred.

What does seem to be emerging is that the make up of the individual’s system has a bearing on the perception of the ā€˜performance’ of different streaming cables. Even the ā€˜mix’ of streaming cables used in the chain can have a significant impact on ā€˜perceived’ SQ.

More questions than answers - sorry.

It arrived on the 7th. But have to return in less than a week. I know 500 hours etc, but don’t wanna risk not being able to return it if I don’t like the full spectrum of it. You know what I mean?

I have found in my system that a ā€˜pair of jeans’ followed by a Vodka is the best combination yet and by quite a margin…

If you let your streamer on radio, continuously when you are not in home, it will burn quicker. Normally, if after 5 days, 24 h / 24 continuous play, you still don’t like the Vodka, then perhaps it’s not for your system or taste.

Today.

Vodka soley yesterday - no Cisco.

Blue jeans the day before…

Too funny. i feel for you as am in the same boat but your different daily certainty is incredible!!

No need to feel for me, it pulls the birds…:sunglasses:

@Mon, I have Vodkas between switch and ND555 and between switch and NAS with Cinnamon between router and switch.

I am listening to this Carpenters album via Tidal. It sounds a little thin, probably because of the Tidal stream, but sibilance is under control. The track you show has a lot of ss’s and ch’s in the lyrics, but their pronunciation seems spot on to me with no excessive silibance.

Love the Carpenters by the way so this is a labour of love!

Have been doing. Will give one or two more days. There’s a lot I like, it’s just harsh on the high frequencies which is a shame. Because there is a little more space in other areas and depth… (I think…)

I’ve tried with a AQ cinammon-switch-Vodka

The cinnamon there’s no sibilance, BJC no sibilance, Vodka excessive sibilance. Mad. Will report back in a couple of days. Hopefully a miracle happens and it disappears

I prefer the vodka between the router and switch. From switch to melco and nds, I prefer the diamonds. ( 2X 0,75 m).
Or eventually the meicords. I could have had 3 Meicord instead, for perhaps 75% of the performance. A full loom vodka would be too exuberant.

I can’t justify the diamond price on an ethernet cable. I have a Super Lumina interconnect, but Ethernet cable, can’t be doing that…

Yes, I have often wondered that myself. However, with Vodka in the last part of the chain here I don’t experience any sibilance with any type of music at any time. Just pure clarity and engagement.

As has been pointed out Vodkas need plenty of run in, so reserve your ultimate judgement, although I realise your demo is time-limited.

I can understand. However I personally could hardly using a superlumina with a supernait.
However each of us make their choices. I will not criticise.

But 3 days before you seem to prefer BJ…not?

Er…nope. I have consistently said that I find the full BJC loom a little dull and still do. I have not noticed any change with them since new. Have you?

I detest sibilance and can’t abide it so I’m not getting that with my Vodka either.

But mine were rough for a week to ten days of normal use, then greatly improved with run-in. I’m now suspicious of some comments about the Vodka for the reason I’ve heard the initial ā€˜wow’, then the bright glare run-in, then the seeming ā€˜all run-in’, but then it kept improving over several weeks and months so it is a journey with a long tail to further improvement.

But by day 7-10 you will either know it is getting better or not for you IMO.
Some retailers are now offering a free pre-burn-in service of a few days to probably reduce returns and associated costs.

Also try reversing the direction of the Vodka - try it both ways and live with the less-harsh direction for a few days then re-evaluate and decide the final later. That is what I did as it changed with run-in.

DB.
