EtherRegen vs EE?

Dollar? Against the Chinese Yuan more likely!

No made in the U.S, the bits may be chinese though.

Sorry, I misread, I thought it was the EE that had reduce data in price.

I now have an EtherRegen and an EE! EE is on the Nova in the office at the moment. Its been running in for a few days. Sound uplift is good. Will compare on the ND/Melco after a few weeks. I used the ER on the Nova previously and the initial impressions I have of the difference are as follows. Bear in mind that the ER was fitted some weeks ago now and the Nova has been bare since. The EE is almost like a sharpness filter on your phone. It adds clarity. Its a nice product, does a great job and improves low level listening. The ER is a but of a different beast. The ER give the sound more body, depth and less of an impact on the sound. The EE is to an ER like a 282 is to a 252. The 252 is better to some ears but the 282 is cheaper and does something that lots of people like.

I will keep the EE and when the Sean Jacobs DC3 arrives and runs in I will compare the 2 switches using the same P/S and report the differences to my ears with my music.

I think this is very important as our taste in music probably makes more of a difference to how we perceive upgrades than anything else. I listen to a wide range of music and some music can sound mind blowing but the next album sounds flat and dull!! If I only listen yo and judged on acoustic/jazz then most upgrades would sound fantastic!! While I love acoustic and jazz, a lot of music I like is modern compressed/badly recorded stuff so my view may not be relevant for everyone/anyone

Thanks Steve, interesting assessment.

I look forward to hearing your findings, Steve, and also listen to a very wide range of stuff (gets on all my friends’ nerves)…

I’m now currently going:

Cisco 2960> 1m fiber> opticalModule > 1m ethernet > opticalModule> 3m fiber> opticalRendu.

So essentially a double optical bridge. It’s a lot of little devices to power but the sound is wonderful. I did have to add some power conditioning to the server closet where most of this lives (along with a NUC, modem, and office devices, etc) and small USB fans. I was hoping to sell the spare opticalModule, but the double bridging from the Cisco really does something. I’m supposing an etherRegen might have a similar effect but those are more $ and not available until November or longer at this point so no point in even planning on a comparison.
Just really enjoying the sound! I’m not sure about those $$ FMC’s you linked to. I think they’re built for industry and might achieve superiority in life and robustness but not necessarily good power regulation like the oM’s. Who knows?

Is that a ZeroZone LPS I see there?

Yes. 12V/5amp/100VA version. Honestly, I have no clue what/if it’s bringing anything to the table, but I had it so using it. Been running the NUC for a couple of years now with no hiccup. When I first got it, it smelled to high hell like rosin, but a week of running in and that was gone. Great value for what they are.

That’s a ZeroZone on the NUC; Uptone LPS 1.2 on the second oM and just an Uptone branded 7.5v wall wart charger on the first opticalModule (I think the $15 Uptone charger sounds better than an iFi, plus they’ve been grounded internally), and a cheap 7V LPS “BRZHiFi” in the back which I got with a demo package deal from Sonore when I bought an opticalrendu recently - it’s powering a microRendu that I still need in order to cast Roon to the UQ in the office. Upstairs, using a Sonore UltraSupply with the opticalRendu.

Humph not amused having paid just over £700 with postage only three weeks ago!!

I have two one 12v 5a for my ROCK Roon Core and another 12v 3a on my Rock endpoint which is a NuC thin client. Work well.

The strange thing is it does not look like the new price is being applied to a new imported batch…as they have only 4 in stock, ie old batch not a newly imported one. Yes i would be less than amused too.

@PatM currently using their stock power supplies. I have a single output CH3 but am using that on the Melco D100 ripper at the moment. I could swap over I guess in the evening when I listen but have not done that.

I order an EtherRegen a few days ago. Its retails price was $640, which makes CHF586 (the Swiss Franc is pretty high at the moment).

We’ll see/hear if it keeps its promises.

It should arrive on wednesday.

I bought my EtherRegen about 6 weeks ago, swapped out my Cisco.
The only thing I don’t like about it is how hot it runs, it really is very warm to the touch.
Obviously I was aware that this would be the case, just surprised me.

In terms of SQ, it seems richer, more depth, and I have been really enjoying my listening sessions.
Is it expectation bias? No idea.
What’s it like compared to an EE? Unfortunately I can’t answer that either.

The Cisco was/is great value for money and definitely gave an uplift to what went before in my system.
The ER is definitely better to these ears (and so it should be, right?) and it will be staying in my system, no need for me to get an EE to compare, life’s too short!

That’s exactly what I have found Chris, I am really enjoying my digital playback at the moment and have no regrets buying the ER. Yes it is expensive but in the context of a 555/2x555PS/555/500 system into Kudos 808s in proportion and certainly cheaper than the Super Lumina interconnects.

Hi Michael,

Mine should arrive in a couple of days. I hope it’ll bring the enhancements described.

I’ll connect it to my Cisco Catalyst using a pair of SFPs.

Cisco ----(fiber)----ER-----ND555

The ER will then be totally isolated from the network.

Wow, your system sounds like it would be stunning @MichaelF , even in the context of my system (NDS/555PS) the ER is only a relatively small investment :+1:
Glad you are enjoying the new addition anyway.

I finally got to listen to the Ansuz switch today. Now my use case is a little different, as my ND555 is separated from my server/switch rack by almost 100ft of cat5 cable, with a splice (connector) in the middle of it, and an RJ-45 wall jack behind the Fraim. The Ansuz switch is on the Fraim.

Once again an Ansuz product surprised me. Did not expect to be able to “hear” a switch. A nicely more musical presentation, and even a deepening of the sound stage.
