Eversolo T8 Streamer

Just wonering if anyone has one, or at least tried one out?

Thoughts?

I haven’t but an x Naim member that might see this has, he has one running into his dCS bartok and i think he is happy with it.

Why both streamers?

Wanted it for the storage, screen, hadn’t tried it against the built in one in the bartok as yet, but didn’t like the melco N5 or N1 he had and sold it, but as said hopefully he might comment

It’s the next unit on my upgrade list (!) and have been a member of the owners FB page for a while and can confirm very many extremely satisfied customers - obvs not the best of the best but it would seem very highly rated as a value for money option. Top owner likes are big screen, great UI, IIS output and SFP optical network input (plus the sound of course!)

I’ve had one for a couple of months now, it replaced my zen Mk3 which was just beginning to play up every now and then.
Really pleased with how it sounds, very clean, detailed and a great app IMO.
Does everything the Innuos did server, rip CDs as well as CD playback if required.
My favourite feature is it can play local music stored without requiring the internet, which I discovered when ours was unusually down for a bit.

Out of interest, how were you using the Zen in your system? I use my Zen Mini as a ripper, server and Roon core and have wondered what I would do if the Zen needed to be replaced - the new Innuos products are getting very expensive.

Also, how are you using the T8 in your system now, that the Zen previously provided?

Many thanks.

I no longer have the Zen.
The T8 replaced it as does everything the Zen does bar the Roon core.
Yes that was my concern and agree the new Innuos products are very good but quite expensive for my pocket when you get to a decent level specification.

I’m using it with a Chord Mojo 2, attached a CD drive for ripping discs into an NN50 and Neat Petite classics.
Sounds great and I actually don’t mind the app, it’s quite responsive.
Hope that helps!

I don’t own one but did look into them a bit as even though price wise it was less then what I currently have, after some initial reviews they seemed to be over the moon, so thought it might be an upgrade. After looking more into it, from actual owners, seems the reviewers may have inflated the performance a bit. My take after going through all the info I could find, was that yes for the most part owners were happy. It performs inline with the price point (not the “giant killer” some were making it out to be). So while it does offer great performance/value for $, don’t expect it to outclass other kit that’s in a higher price class. From what I gather sonically it’s on the just cooler side of neutral.

Well that’s not what I wanted to hear!

Trouble is I’ve been bitten twice now by pricey streamer boxes letting me down by becoming either outdated and un-updateable (272), or likely left high and dry through a death by a thousand cuts type reduction in use-ability (Auralic). So I really don’t want to spend stacks again on something else and then run the risk of it too becoming a relic.

The discounted price I’ve been offered on a T8 is really as much as I’d like to put down and I can’t really see anything as useful near it.

If you don’t mind me asking what level of discount have you been able to organise?

Are you able to have the opportunity to hear it?

Yep, remote selling rules mean I can return if not wanted.

About ÂŁ150

Hope my reply didn’t come across as too negative, I believe it’s still a great product & offers excellent features for its price range, just don’t expect it to be competing well out of its price range, like some reviews have said. Not sure if you’ve seen it, but if you search A British Audiophile T8 on youtube he’s got what seems to be a pretty level headed review. If the sonic “flavor” is what you’re after, still likely a great buy in its price range.

I’ll be interested to hear how you get on if you go for it. The Eversolo will probably be my next move. I’d be hoping for an improvement in sound quality over the NP5 - and the storage capabilities are also very appealing (to replace my ageing NAS).

Am considering options still. I have read a number of commentaries suggesting that the T8 is bettered by the Volumio Rivo+ in terms of sq, spesh with the external ps. However, there seems to be a lot of suggestion that the app. is a pain in the bum.

Are there any Volumio users here who could comment?

I used Volumio for maybe a week and it was unnecessarily painful (sample of 1).

The Eversolo solution looks very slick and a SFP socket is appealing (for me anyway).

Ah, why was that so painful?

Compared to the Naim app, WiiM app and Roon the control experience wasn’t super.

It seemed buggy to me and considering it’s been in development for ages I thought that wasn’t a good sign.

Can’t really comment on sound quality, I didn’t detect a meaningful difference between the other OS, like Moode, I was testing.

Sample of one though.
