…plenty of years experimenting here. Love physics, understand it pretty well (cannot do the more difficult maths). Can appreciate that different cables sound different. But better??? Um. (This does not apply to speaker cables).
Different can also be better? And when is something different and when is it better and who defines it? And how would you define better in terms of acoustics and what is the reference level and why is it not just different?
Is better when I sing along more and enjoy my music more or when it measures better? Or can different be better than better?
You get my point ![]()
Is Catweazle even higher spec than Cat8?

…agree with what you say…which is why earlier in the thread I said that the cable with which the product was developed is LIKELY to be the best. Best will mean different things to each of us, one way of judging might be fatigue over long-term listening.
I could agree with it being a higher likeliness IF they made EVERYTHING from wall socket to speaker. But if you use a speaker not made by the same manufacturer you are more or less blindfolded on what the end result will be IMO. Synergy is a tough one and I believe even those brands developing and manufacturing most parts themselves struggle finding it.
I just find it strange many close the door without having a listen because they decided it is not ,based on their limited knowledge, technically possible.
Agree…which is why I said that this does not apply to 'speaker cables. I could have been more specific though: my comments apply to sources/pre-amps/streaming pre-amps/power amp combinatioms all from the same manufacturer.
It’s interesting that I have read a good number of times on these threads that contributors have returned to Naim interconnects.
Maybe they travelled the HIFI ladder too far focusing on more and more details ending up with an unreal and ear fatique focused presentation. Taking a step back to the original cables will help taming this IMO. The original cables are very good at coherence but have limitations in other areas IMO. Whatever makes you happy and listen to more music is right ![]()
At least those Ansuz are priced like a box or two.
Maybe because more expensive is not always more enjoyable. For that I agree. So you can’t go wrong with stock manufacturer cables developed for the electronics.
But it doesn’t imply that they are forcefully the best.
Those returning to stock cables have probably not choosed the right expensive cables.
You can have both, enjoyable, in the same spirit of sound, but much better.
If you have more dynamics, better defined bass, more details, more clarity, more effortless sound, better placement, better soundstaging….YOU CANNOT ARGUE ITS NOT BETTER.
So… final thoughts?
Anyone?
I using mostly all nordost valhllla 2 reference now, and more coming , why? It gives so much more of everything that I keep looking for my jaw when I add one more in . No turning back . The power of cables .. not snake oil but hard listening facts , ![]()
And Odin 2 on my radar already , for the power cords
Have you ever considered upgrading your speakers instead of dumping all this money on cables?
I once owned a pair of Dyn Confidence C1 MK11’s and do not consider them to be top level speakers. If you listen at relatively low volumes they are ok, But try playing “Lose yourself to dance” by Daft Punk,at anything around 90 DB’s and they simply lose control.
Yes am looking for some speakers already , on my radar .. after my full loom Valhalla 2…
My listening volume normally at max 75dB ..
Can I ask what speakers you are considering?
Also, I would get the speakers first because the cables you are buying might not work so well with different speakers.
I have work on the cables I have w a few speakers - to name a few , marten , magico , YG acoustic and focal
The only issue is my room are pretty small , so I have problems to get the right speakers to the sound that I had already tweaked base on my room size ..
Now is more on room then pairing , for my case
This is the system eventually I will get to ..
Ok , nice to have goals I guess, but for the list price of a Nordost Odin 2 power cable you were talking about you could buy a pair of Borrenson Z 1 speakers. Then you might want Ansuz cables…
I tried ansuz D3 and above , good cables but there’s something about Valhalla and odins that ansuz lacks .. the emotion Valhalla and Odin gives ..
I also intend to add one or 2 ansuz cables in time to come to merge into my nordost ..
To add, the Valhalla /odin has more clarity, more transparent, more depth , more focus , and give you the wow factor emphasis in a recording , as to how they conceptualise their highest tier cables, and ultra fast -on steroids ..
Ansuz , on the other hand , has more low and more organic.. which is too smooth for me.. however I do like the dynamics.
I don’t have experience with Dynaudio Confidence C1 mkII but would agree with No-Quarter. Once you get to a certain level with speakers, the still enjoyable but cheaper speakers will sound well, rather inadequate. I think you are on the right track with the few listed brands.
FWIW after I upgraded from Harbeth to Marten, there is no turning back. Few more cable and amp upgrades have brought the Marten to greater heights. Although I have the intention to swap to the Graham LS5/9 earlier, the plan has been delayed since the Martens sound so good that I have no urge to change anything at the moment. The LS5/9s are currently sitting quietly in a corner but I’ll attempt to make the switch soon.
I love the Mingus .. but too huge for my room .. I can’t have them in my living , I want a cave myself … and wifey also forbid …
I’m in no doubt what so ever that Superlumina interconnects are well ahead of the stock Naim cables in a mid to high range Naim system. Much more open with micro dynamics that make the presentation much more immersive. It’s immediately obvious when you switch back to stock cables. The potential of any Naim box is held back somewhat without better cabling (both interconnects and all power cables).
