…the philisophical question revamped: is there any sound if there is noone to hear it (no, because the perception of sound requires 2 transductions).
The question of whether a falling tree makes a sound if no one is around to hear it depends on how “sound” is defined. If sound is defined as the physical phenomenon of vibrations in a medium like air, then yes, the falling tree would produce sound. However, if sound is defined as a conscious experience, then no, it would not make a sound because there is no one to perceive it.
Brain off is not saying that there’s nobody to hear. Brain is like on mute, no thinking or raisonning, no fear, no hope, ….just another kind of experience. It however not occurs a long time.
I hear you FR
Trees have a consciousness and can hear.
They would be fully aware of falling themselves.
When I bought my 1982 NAP 160, it came with a connecting cable with 4-pin, 240° plugs both ends - a very common SNAIC4. Only, it was made with the thinner ‘lavender’ wire. Posts here confirmed it was original, from before the thicker proper SNAICs.
All my cabling - from CD to 62, from Thorens to 62, from 62 to 90 - is now differently terminated lavenders. It’s perfectly fine for me.
In general if you hear differences, great, If you don’t stick with what you’ve got and just enjoy the music.
I, for one, think I can hear differences, and that’s exactly why I stick with the lavender.. ![]()
Which is great because you’ve probably tried something else that didn’t connect you emotionally so you stuck with what you already had. Many though think more expensive and exotic is better, which is not necessarily the case when heard through others ears.
I think it’s a myth. Raisonnable persons return the expensive cable if it’s not better or more enjoyable.
But very often, not always, when it’s better , it’s more expensive.
Not by my experience. DNM Reson bullet was all the interconnect I ever needed in a previous life. I did try others but I didn’t hear any differences whatsoever. There are lots of factors in play and everyone is different. Being happy whatever road you go down is all that matters.
We have different experiences…
And we are both happy, which is all that matters, as you said.
But…..now I am joking
…and therefore it depends on what you mean by the word sound…a human perception or the vibration of air molecules (but it could vibration of anything, as in bone conductiion).
I’ve always wondered if my farts make a sound when I’m asleep. Maybe not then?
What I said ….. ![]()
Yes the lavender, aka the standard interconnect supplied with a naim source, do have 4 conductors + shield, even tho as interconnect only 2 + shield is used. Are you saying you use this interconnect wired as snaic4, taking both power and signal from/to a pre/power combo with great results?
I think Max is referring to the original “pre-SNAIC” which was grey and thin like the grey interconnect.
Yes, I am. I care to stress that the cable is original and came with my 1982 NAP 160.
Results are undoubtedly good. An early note from JV - one of those occasionally posted here - was just about how good thinner pre-SNAICs were for sound but how later, thicker SNAICs were developed to also guarantee a safe delivery of 24V.
Mine is perfectly OK.
If thicker Snaics were developed for safety I’d have those thanks.
