Final Thoughts On Differences Between Interconnects

Patronising is a word I would use….

I’m glad someone as knowledgable as yourself sees what I mean.

Fifth repair, that is terrible.

Would you put up with a car being repaired for the same time five times.

No something would have Bern done by the manufacturer to address the design fault or the purchaser in replacing the car with a different middle.

Who is he. Video is 10 years old. CEO?

I’ve worked in few startups with CEOs having no clue about the tech and know how going into the products and when they talk it can sound very shaky. Same at Naim. Talk to Steve and you get a different story than from the French CEO. 100%.

I’m not here to defend chord. I have no knowledge about their company but I suspect they as many other European companies mainly assemble in UK/EU and buy parts made to specification from elsewhere. I don’t see the problem with that. The knowledge of building a great cable
is obviously not at the chair at the assembly line in UK. We all know that?

What cables do you use Edmund, I am curious ? Don’t tell me you use stock Linn cables with your 200 k system ? Please, don’t tell me that ? :joy:

All is well that ends well. All five repairs were FOC. My brand new HiLine i’d won at auction from a dealership for £200. It sounds great. I now have a spare also.

So, two fully working HiLines for less than £900.

‘Appy days!:upside_down_face:

Are we talking about the Chord Company that was started by Paul Stephensons then wife, Sally?

Perhaps we are lucky that Naim continued to develop cables at all !?

Is it still the case that Ansuz will not provide measurements on their products?

Yes, I reviewed the video the first time you posted it. Thanks to you @Skeptikal it promted me to ask Chord Co. some simple technical questions - which they have failed to answer (so far).

Most cable makers will tell you —- TRADE SECRET —
It’s businesses after all

Same with KFC! :joy:

It might be that Chord Co. wish to increase their international sales and the US market is quite large. Furthermore, the sales methods in Europe and RoW (for HiFi equipment in general and cables in particular) may differ for North America - and NA customers MAY be ‘less interested’ in products that have ‘Metric’ units specifed?

OK @frenchrooster “I won’t tell you that I use stock Linn cables with my system” :slightly_smiling_face:

Do you have a boutique powerblock at least, or a white microwave one?
Don’t tell me you have the last one

Nothing final about these thoughts. In fact, this is only the beginning.

Oh Gosh! this thread could be about to get really interesting, but maybe not for the faint hearted…

How deep do you wish to go @frenchrooster ?

Perhaps for us to continue this discussion it would be safer over on my dedicated thread that talks a lot about measurements and what they mean?

Before you decide, I wish to give a very public THANK YOU to @Blackbird who alerted me to the Alpha Audio website and their cable testing experiments, analysis and listening tests.

I am still working through all the details on that website, neverthless that website would enable anyone with an engineering mindset and training to select the ‘correct’ cable for their system.

PS: The above statement does not imply that those on here using ‘ears based listening tests’ are misguided - absolutely not. I would simply observe that some of the sums of money spent on cabling discussed on this forum could very easily buy all the test equipment used by Alpha Audio for their experiments and have change to spare!

Not entirely accurate but close.

Chord have always used AWG, it may well ‘help’ the US market, but I’m not convinced, maybe its because they source cable from the US and just copy/paste the spec.
They make/sell cable length in metres, diameter is mm and they also show conductor size in mm2, its just a bit odd with AWG. (IMOO)

Measurements won’t give you the special character, sound signature, of a cable. Do you measure your ice cream before eating too?
